Hi,
I just currently installed Gentoo after trying FreeBSD 4.7 and 5.0, Debian, and Redhat in about a month (had problems with each). I like the idea of Linux having a portage system sort of like BSD. Anyways, after several times of compiling the kernel on installation, I finally got it to work somewhat. I get a "failed to calculate dependencies", but when I check the modules file, there's only one module for my ethernet card and rpppoe works so i don't care. But when I try to do "emerge xfree" it fails and exits. Unfortunately I'm not at my computer right now because of assignments due but was wondering what the possible problems could be and is it related to my dependency problem. I have an ATI Radeon 7500 VE. Thanks.

try typing "modules-update" to fix your dependancy problem.
dunno why xfree is failing. try using --deep option when doing the emerge. _________________ ^<^>^<^>^

So are you saying that your network is up?
You did an lsmod and say that your net-card module was up?
You said something about having only one module in /lib/modules/...../net/
You did an ifconfig and a ping www.google.com and everything was fine?
emerge sync had no problems?
I had to pick my module out in kernel compilation, and then add the module to /etc/modules.autoload _________________ there is no crazy, only violet and non violet.. |
