Ich versuche gerade Framebuffer und Xorg auf einem Acer Travelmate 4002WLMi einzurichten.
Das Display hat eine native Auflösung von 1280x800.
Xorg läuft problemfrei mit den ATI Treibern in 1280x800.
Mit dem neuen ATI Framebuffertrieber läuft der fb ohne angabe irgendwelcher
bootoptionen sofort in 1280x800.
Beides zusammen funzt leider nicht.
Beim wechsel vom Terminal zu xorg wird das Bild verzerrt, und lässt sich nur durch nen
neustart des xservers korrigieren.
(Terminal geht weiterhin problemfrei)
Hab im Forum gesucht und gefunden, dass die x treiber wohl nicht mit den fb treibern harmonieren.
Jetzt wollte ich wissen ob sich die FB-Auflösung auch noch mit anderen Mitteln erreichen lässt.
Es gibt im 2.6.11-r4 zwei ATI fb Treiber, der neue erkennt die richtige Auflösung von selbst, der alte nicht.
Sowohl den alten, als auch den vesa treiber konnte ich nicht überreden in 1280x800 zu arbeiten.
Wie müssten die Bootoptionen (grub) für den vesa bzw den alten radeon treiber aussehen
um diese Auflösung zu erreichen ?
(evtl. hab ich ja Mist gebaut)
Und falls das nicht geht, was ist mit der "Fbset, Variante." ?
Dabei wird der FB nach dem booten, (oder wärend dem init) neu gesetzt ?

Ich glaub bei mir hat das setzen irgendeiner option in der X config geholfen (ka welche).
Jetzt funktioniert radeonfb und fglrx gut zusammen (allerdings nur die neuesten ati-drivers).

Ok das lässt ja hoffen.
Meine xorg.conf sieht allerdings genauso aus.
Wie hast du denn den Mode angegeben, mit ner kompletten Modeline oder nur
als 1280x800 ?
Stehe nämlich vor dem Problem die Syncraten des Displays nicht zu kennen.
Wie komme ich an die Syncraten und die richtige Modeline ?
Gibts da nicht nen tool für ?

Neueste Treiber sind 8.10.19 richtig ?

Ok vielleicht ist es ja was banales.
Aber wenn ich glx oder dri nicht lade, bekomm ich das Problem nicht.
Müsste mir dabei ein Licht aufgehen, oder nicht ?

komisch, werd ich aber auch probieren. allerdings: welchen nachteil hat man wenn man glx/dri nicht lädt?

und: mit vesafb bzw. vesafb-tng geht überhaupt nix, auch nicht wenn man per default auf 1280x800@60 stellt. radeon-old hab ich noch nicht probiert

keine hardwarebeschleunigung

da kannste die radeon auch getrost weglassen, und dir den treiberstress sparen.

hi,

ich habe es auf meinem toshiba satellite (geforce fx) mit folgendem statement in der grub.conf geloest:
benutzt werden NVdriver und XFree86 als X-server

so faehrt der vesafb die gewuenschte 1280x800 mit 64k farben.
in der XF86Config habe ich mein elend mit folgender modeline loesen koennen:

Ich hab vesafb ja schon in verschiendester weise versucht auf
1280x800 zu bringen.
Bisher ohne erfolg.
Exakt wie bei Dir, hab ich den String aber glaube ich noch nicht gehabt.
Kanns nur im Moment nicht ausprobieren, weil das Notebook wieder zurückgeht,
und nen anderes dafür kommt.
Aber ich werds versuchen, sobald das Teil da ist.

Also gibts es jetzt schonmal für beide Varianten wenigstens einen
Präzedenzfall.

Radeonfb + radeonx mit ner conf, die den Verzerrfehler behebt.
(so es denn an der xorg.conf liegt)

Und nen vesafb auf 1280x800, weil der das Problem nicht erzeugt.

Dann noch eine Frage.
Wie spreche ich den "alten" radeonfb an ?
Über video=radeonfb oder vide=radeon reagiert er nicht.

hm, mit dem radeonfb kenne ich mich nicht aus, bei mir rennt der vesafb sowohl unter nvidia, als auch unter ati ohne probleme.
ich hab' alles was nach framebuffer riecht in den kernel gestopft und es lief auf anhieb.

ich habe irgendwo auf den gentoo-seiten 'ne extra ati-faq rumfliegen sehen (link find ich grad nicht) , hast du da mal reingeschaut ?

wenn du die ati treiber verwenden willst, dann darfst du auf keinen fall den radeon-fb verwenden. wenn ich mich nicht irre steht das sogar im helpfile des kernel-moduls.

@ ro : nope hab ich nicht. Werd ich halt auch frühestens montag machen können.

@bbgermany : hm, mit dem neuen funzt es ja, bis auf den terminal switch.
und bei iosch geht es ja auch weitestgehend.
Letzlich isses mir egal ob vesafb. oder alter oder neuer radeon vb, hauptsache die auflösung ist da. denn adnere auflösungen sehen bescheiden aus
auf nem wxga display.

also ich hab noch ein paar sachen probiert mit dem alten vesafb, vesafb-tng, dem alten radeonfb und dem neuen radeonfb. aber es scheint nicht zu klappen. muss jedesmal den x server neu starten wenn ich einmal in der konsole war :-(
