This is something new I haven't came across before. Anyways, when I run gmplayer, the mplayer GUI. The gui doesn't retain its regular colors. Everything is blue.

Here is a screenshot of it:http://img146.exs.cx/img146/6791/200504021451481024x768scrot9vk.png

In addition to that, the keybindings don't seem to work either? For example, when i press 'f' to full screen the movie or show, it goes full screen but then goes back to its regular size?
Has anyone had a problem like this with gmplayer?

Could it be that i am using the nvidia kernel? Because I just recently got direct rendering to work on my computer and prior to re-building my system and emerging the nvidia-kernel--I didn't check gmplayer before i emerged the nvidia kernel-- it use to work fine?

Any suggestions?

Whoa. I use the latest unstable version (1.0-pre6-r2) and I have the latest unstable nvidia driver and to say the least I don't have those issues at all. You did say direct rendering though...

Can you post...

-Specs
-Graphics card and modules section in xorg.conf
-Mplayer version

...please :)?

question : does the normal mplayer work (without the gui i mean)

maybe this will help. this is my use flags combination for mplayer. works here.

media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre6-r2 -3dfx +3dnow -3dnowex +X +aalib +alsa (-altivec) -arts +avi +bidi +cdparanoia -debug -dga +directfb +divx4linux +doc +dts +dv -dvb +dvd +dvdread +edl +encode +esd +fbcon -ggi +gif +gtk -i8x0 -ipv6 -jack +joystick +jpeg -libcaca -lirc -live -lzo +mad +matroska -matrox -mmx -mmxext +mpeg +mythtv +nas +nls +nvidia +oggvorbis +opengl -oss +png +real -rtc +samba +sdl -sse -sse2 -svga +tga +theora +truetype +v4l +v4l2 +xanim +xinerama +xmms +xv +xvid +xvmc

i know it's not a solution, but from my experience the mplayer gui has always been quite buggy (even though it seems to be working now). i would suggest you go with kmplayer as a gui for mplayer. imo a much better frontend.

I don't believe this is an nvidia problem. I also have the blue gui and the problem with the 'f' key. Additionally the space key doesn't seem to work.

Here is what I am using:

ati mobility
media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre5-r5 [ebuild R ] media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre5-r5 -3dfx -3dnow -3dnowex +X +aalib +alsa (-altivec) +arts +avi -bidi -cdparanoia -debug -dga -directfb -divx4linux -doc -dvb -dvd -dvdread -edl +encode +esd -fbcon -ggi +gif +gtk -i8x0 +ipv6 -jack -joystick +jpeg -libcaca -lirc -live -lzo +mad -matroska -matrox -mmx -mmxext +mpeg -mythtv -nas -network +nls -nvidia +oggvorbis +opengl +oss +png -real -rtc +samba +sdl -sse -sse2 +svga -tga -theora +truetype -v4l -v4l2 -xanim -xinerama +xmms +xv -xvid -xvmc 0 kB

I'll upgrade later tonight and see what happens :)

Good luck,

Buzz

Oh yes and also, mplayer works fine, but it is gmplayer that is giving me the troubles!

I have the same problem with gmplayer (fullscreen with "f" and pause with space not working properly). It started after I upgraded the Kernel from 2.6.7 to 2.6.12-rc1. I'm not sure what the problem is. Perhaps a timing issue.

The two keys still work properly when the interface window (the one with the buttons) has focus.

I have finally emerged a later version and it did fix my problems with the keys (mplayer-1.0_pre6-r2). As noted in an earlier post, changing from 16 to 24 depth in my xorg.conf fixed the blue skins. This is not an answer if you don't/can't run that way. Perhaps this will change in the future.

Good luck,

Buzz

Yes, that might be the issue Buzz. Sometimes if you use a default color depth that is lower than 24 bit (16 bit in this case), the colors aren't properly rendered on screen. Please try 24 bit.

Niice, changing to depth to 24 fixed the blue issue. But I still have the keybinding issue where i press 'f' to go full screen but it like hits it twice. It goes full screen then comes back to normal? Any suggestions for this problem?

That can't be it because I am having the same problem and didn't change anything. Mplayer just stopped accepting the f and space shortcut keys. Probably just an error with the stable version though.

Add "nvidia" to USE. I noticed it missing in Buzz's output of `emerge -vp mplayer`.

That's because I use an ati video card on that machine. :) The effect seems unrelated to the brand of video card being used, or at least it appears to affect both brands.

Cheers,

Buzz

Note: The process that I went through that got rid of the key issues was to:

1. unmerge mplayer
2. move all my settings for backup (/etc/mplayer.conf and the version in my home directory)
3. set the ~x86 in /etc/portage/package.keywords
4. emerge -uavD xine-ui xine-lib mplayer

I can't say that emerge xine-ui or xine-lib did anything, I only include it because it is part of what I did.

Good luck!!

Note color depth being an issue and try a different video output driver than you are currently using.

Buzz - I took your advice and did all your steps

But still have no luck. Any other ideas? I thought it might have been the kernel or something, so I changed it from the dev-sources to the ck-source. But still the same result

I'm at a loss... sorry :( perhaps just check that you are running media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre6-r2 ...

Good luck,
