Palm IIIc + Serial 9pin to USB converter + hotsync

  • Quote

Post by codemac » Mon Mar 28, 2005 11:25 pm

I am running Ubuntu Hoary right now on my laptop, and to sync my Palm IIIc with it I bought a Serial 9pin to USB convertor. Now when I plug all this in it detects the USB converter and gives it /dev/ttyUSB0. I set the permissions with udev and everything. But if I tail -f /var/log/messages when I press the hotsync button on the cradle, nothing happens. It's as if the comp doesn't realize that after the converter there is a cradle and PDA. And I know it's not hardware because this all works in windows. When I use the gnome-pilot configure app, and it gets to the part where I click the hotsync button, it doesn't give any errors, it just waits as if nothing is happening. And yes, I do want to use Evolution.

Any help is much appreciated.

Does this have anything to do with the version number thing people have addressed?

Code: Select all

****************************************
 Syncing on device /dev/ttyUSB0
 Press the HotSync button now
****************************************
pi_bind error: /dev/ttyUSB0 Permission denied
Check your serial port and settings
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND
Finished
That is the most descriptive error I have gotten yet. I still don't know what to do about it though.[/code]

Now that I realize that my palm should be on /dev/ttyUSB1, when I press the hotsync button, the device is not created. Is this because of my serial -> usb converter?

Could it have been your kernel?
