|
|
I'm trying to bootstrap my system, but it fails while compiling glibc. I don't have the exact error, as I had to reboot into Windows to get wireless access, but it was more or less:
* Installing man pages and docs
ls: relocation error: /var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.4-20041102-r1/image/lib/something: symbol __tls_get_addr not defined in file ld_linux.so.2 w/ link time reference Version GLIBC_2.3
Sorry the error is a little unorganized, I had to transcribe it from my handwriting. My CFLAGS are "-march=i686 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointers". My CHOST is i686-pc-linux-gnu. I am compiling this on an IBM Thinkpad T42 with a Pentium-M processor.
Any idea what's going on here?

MOD EDIT: Made sticky. Changed thread name.
Please, see bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86465
The following error message is also covered:
| Code: | * Installing man pages and docs...
/usr/lib/portage/bin/ebuild.sh: line 1732: 3274 Segmentation fault
env LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${D}/$(get_libdir)" ${x} >/dev/null |
-- Deathwing00

I also have this problem. The exact error is:
* Installing man pages and docs...
ls: relocation error: /var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1/image//lib/libc.so.6: symbol ____tls_get_addr, version GLIBC_2.3 not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? |

Can anyone tell us what is actually causing this? I have the same thing updating an existing system that had not been sync'd for a while (my gf was using the box in Windows, unfortunately). Previous glibc (2.3.3.20040420-r1) did not have a problem on this system. My other box is running 2.3.4.20041102-r1 without a problem. _________________ "1830: Press Return."
Vista will solve all your problems. People keep telling me so it must be true. |

Same msg as Silverstar while merging sys-libs/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1 during stage1 bootstrap.

My error happens at the same place, but it's not a segfault.

It's not quite the same problem. The bug report says glibc segfaults.
FWIW, I'm having the same issue, with a machine which hasn't been sync'd in a while:
| Code: |
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1/work/glibc-2.3.3/localedata'
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1/work/glibc-2.3.3'
* Installing man pages and docs...
ls: relocation error: /var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1/image//lib/libc.so.6: symbol ___tls_get_addr, version GLIBC_2.3 not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference
!!! ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1 failed.

| Is there an alternative version of glibc to use that won't do this? Is it possible to specify alternative versions with a bootstrap? |

Don't know if it's relevant but I've just noticed that my /var was full... which happens to be where my portage tmpdir is.
I've cleared some space and I'm recompiling glibc now, with any luck it'll work. |

I do a new installation of Gentoo, so this can't be the problem. |

I'm trying something recommended on IRC.
| Code: |
(14:34:10) FluffyArmada: bill21 : I think this is an issue with the linux26-headers.
(14:34:17) FluffyArmada: Try this
(14:34:24) FluffyArmada: # emerge -C linux-headers
(14:34:34) FluffyArmada: # emerge --oneshot --nodeps linux26-headers
(14:34:42) FluffyArmada: # cd /usr/portage
(14:34:49) FluffyArmada: # scripts/bootstrap.sh
|
I will let you know if it completes successfully. |

| Same error as SIlverstar here (ls relocation error). Sync'd up last night to bootstrap a new system and had this happen. Seems to be a general glibc problem, not just bootstrap. What happened? It was fine just a couple days ago. |

I tried this and it doesn't work.
I get the exact same relocation error. |

| I'm concerned that this may leave my system in an unbootable state. Has anyone else tried rebooting on a system which was previously stable following this error? |

Today, I've tried to bootstrap gentoo. I can't remember, but i've got something similar to:
* Installing man pages and docs...
error: /lib/libc.so.6 cant handle tls data
simple run test (ls) failed
server portage # /lib/libc.so.6

Adding this line to your /etc/portage/package.mask file sidesteps the problem druing bootstrap:
| Code: | | >=sys-libs/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1 |
This will of course result in bad karma, hangovers, and your cat will probably die of dislexia.
