Ok, I'm trying to do an emerge -uaDv world and these are the packages emerge is trying to update:
Code: | Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild NS ] sys-libs/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1 -build -debug -erandom -hardened (-multilib) +nls -nomalloccheck -nptl -nptlonly -pic -userlocales 0 kB
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/pango-1.8.1 [1.8.0] -debug +doc -static 973 kB
[ebuild UD] net-misc/openssh-3.9_p1-r2 [4.0_p1] -X509 -chroot -debug +ipv6 -kerberos -ldap -nocxx +pam (-selinux) -sftplogging -skey -smartcard -static +tcpd 0 kB
[ebuild U ] app-arch/tar-1.15.1 [1.14] -build -debug +nls -static 1,573 kB
[ebuild NS ] sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4 -build +doc -symlink (-ultra1) 36,460 kB
[ebuild U ] media-plugins/xmms-mad-0.8 [0.7] 307 kB
[ebuild N ] sys-fs/device-mapper-1.00.19-r2 625 kB
[ebuild N ] sys-fs/cryptsetup-0.1-r1 243 kB
[ebuild U ] app-cdr/cdrtools-2.01-r2 [2.01] +crypt -unicode 24 kB
[ebuild U ] net-misc/rsync-2.6.0-r4 [2.6.0-r3] -acl -build -debug -static 0 kB
[ebuild U ] www-client/mozilla-launcher-1.28 [1.23] 5 kB
[ebuild U ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.0.2 [1.0.1] -debug -gnome +java -ldap -mozdevelop -moznoxft -mozsvg -mozxmlterm -xinerama -xprint 31,992 kB |
But when I try to compile glibc I get the following error:
Code: |
* Installing man pages and docs...
/usr/lib/portage/bin/ebuild.sh: line 1874: 32219 Segmentation fault env LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${D}/$(get_libdir)" ${x} >/dev/null

I managed to get mine to install by editing /usr/portage/sys-libs/glibc/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1.ebuild at line 1006
Code: |
# for x in ls ps date ; do
# env LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${D}/$(get_libdir)" ${x} > /dev/null \
# || die "simple run test (${x}) failed"
# done
|
I commented out this section of code and glibc seemed to install, but I dont know what else this might have caused.
I wouldnt recommend doing anything until this is fixed.. unless you are desperate, or like tinkering like me |

i updated world (with glibc) just fine, one time i had that error is when my config file was missing from /usr/src/linux cause i updated the sources and use the script (in Unsupported Software forum) to update toolchain, otherwise ur system will be borked! |

Any word yet on this issue? I've run the "emerge system --update" on 3 systems now. Two worked okay, but my thinkpad laptop has run into the above issue. I've tweaked the make.conf settings to make it closer to the other two servers, bu still no joy.

I think this issue is related to the new locale setup for glibc. In the install guide the locale setup is optional, but I'm thinking the ebuild disagrees. The reason is, I followed the optional instructions on another machine and didn't have any issues installing glibc. |

Well for one, right before it craps out, it shows that it finished compiling the man pages for all the locales, and then it dies. Put that together with the information in the ebuild file, where they say that the following script is part of their new config setup for building locales. If you comment out this section it builds fine. If you
echo "sys-libs/glibc userlocales" >> /etc/portage/package.use
then it seems to work ok as well. |
