I have been following the http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/qmail-howto.xml to get a virtual mail system up and running.

I have not been able to get it to work and run the trouble so far down to libauthvchkpw.o not being found when trying to starting courier-authlibs.

I looked in the ebuild for courier-imap 4.0.1 and it says the module should be built with courier-authlib 0.53. I loked in the courier-authlib ebuild and it says if vpopmail is installed to build courier-authlib with authvchkpw support. I rebuilt courier-authlib and watched it and it was built without authvchkpw. I saw this (--without-authvchkpw) in the config status and watched as the area where it should have been built rolled by with out listing it.

Does anyone know how to get courier-authlib to build the libauthvchkpw.o library?

same Problem here ("--without-authvckpw") at courier-authlib 0.55

I watched emerge-output and found this:

Code:
/usr/portage/net-libs/courier-authlib/courier-authlib-0.55.ebuild: line 73: [: has_version: unary operator expected

so I did a "nano /usr/portage/net-libs/courier-authlib/courier-authlib-0.55.ebuild" and changed

Code:
if [ has_version 'net-mail/vpopmail' ]; then
                myconf="${myconf} --with-authvchkpw --without-authmysql --without-authpgsql"

to

Code:
if has_version 'net-mail/vpopmail' ; then
                myconf="${myconf} --with-authvchkpw --without-authmysql --without-authpgsql"

hope, this helps

Thanks a lot. That did the trick. I knew I had to change something in the ebuild I just didn't know what.

I have the exact same problem.

Unfortunately, editing the ebuild in the manner that worked for you guys breaks the ebuild on my system.

I have no idea why or what to do :-/

Code:

updating cache /var/tmp/portage/courier-authlib-0.53/work/courier-authlib-0.53/configuring.cache
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating config.h
config.status: executing depfiles commands
make: *** No targets.  Stop.

!!! ERROR: net-libs/courier-authlib-0.53 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 98, Exitcode 2
!!! Compile problem
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.
