Hi all,
I have a chance to pick up a sun enterprise 3000 at a pretty small price...6 processors...lots of RAM. Just curious if anyone here had experienced putting Gentoo on a box like this? All I need to get are harddrives for it....can you put the drives in this box, or does it require an outside array of drives type holder?
Thanks in advance for any experiences/advice on this type box...

I don't have any personal experience with them but I have heard of a few people having success with them. If you want more info try searching the forum as I think a few of the E3000 users have posted their results here. |

Ok...I'll try to mess with my search terms...I wasn't coming up with much. I'm looking at the manual from the Sun site on them...and looks like it maybe has some kind of weird plug or power requirements??
I'm hoping this would run off a regular household plug....
Ok..I'll keep looking....any other comments welcome too!

(A somewhat late reply.)
I have some E3000s at work. They use a normal IEC mains power connector (like on PCs), and have one to three 300W PSUs (one per two system boards), plus up to two 184W peripheral power supplies. The specifications say "100-240 VAC, 47-63 Hz, 10 A", so they don't have any special power requirements. |

Haven't tried it on an E3000 but I have Gentoo running fine on an E4500 with 8 processors. It likes lots of AC power though. |
