Проблема может быть из за кривоватого ебилда. Я с мплеером помучался.
Надо почитать из соответсвующего тара инструкцию по установке медузы вручную.
Скорее всего придется распаковать тар в пустой каталог и запустить configure --help.
Чаще всего скрипту configure надо будет указать путь к библиотекам.
Затем в ебилде ищешь строки где это все конфигурится, и добавляешь нужный параметр ручками. (не забудь копию оригинала ебилда сделать)

Потом - стандартным способом емерге пакет. В принципе должно сработать
