I've got the touchpad working on /dev/psaux, but the mouse (targus mini mouse) refuses to cooperate. I've tried every combination of kernel USB drivers and modules and have 'cat'ed every possible /dev entry pertaining to mice, yet it still won't work. Any suggestions?

what is your usb bus chipset, uhci or ohci.
to have support of usbmouse you should have modules
usbmouse,input,usb-uhci/ohci,hid,mousedev
once you have loaded these modules, doing a cat /dev/input/mice should work. |

usb chipset is uhci
I thought that usbmouse and hid were conflicting modules?
also, when I cat /proc/bus/usb/devices it says that the driver is either hid or usb_mouse depending on which was loaded first. dmesg tells me that it's identifying the mouse on input0, but I still can't get it to work. could it be conflicting with the touchpad somehow?

Nevermind I fixed it. There was some conflict with hid and usbmouse after all. I just enabled usbmouse, mousedev, usb-uhci, usbcore, and input then used /dev/input/mouse0 and it works.

Do the above modules need to be built as modules, or will they work if some of them were built into the kernel? On my system, only mousedev.o is built as a module, I couldn't figure out where to enable input.o to get built at all, and the rest are built into the kernel. Is that why the kernel still won't recognize my USB mouse when I plug it in?

I had them all as modules and autoloaded.
