Thanks as well, Gentoo made it possible to ditch windows entirely, which is tricky at an art college where if you're not stealing photoshop, you're not computing. It also let me get an extra two years out of my hardware. Great work, guys.

I tried several times to move from Windows to Linux system without any success. I tried Mandrake distribution (great distrib btw) but the only problem was that I never made any progress in linux understanding.
And I discovered GENTOO !
That was a revolution for me. I knew absolutly nothing to linux install and functions and advantages... and by using Gentoo I learned to install a linux box, config a kernel, even repair my installation.
That's really great to understand what I am doing when I install something !
Gentoo handbook is a very bonanza....and forums.gentoo.org is even better.

I am now using Gentoo for 8 months and I leanred a lot of things !

So, I just want to say

MERCI BEAUCOUP !!!

Under Windows, my computer has always been faster than any other one, because I know how to optimize it and make it fly.
But it wasn't until I tried Gentoo that I could say the same under Linux. This would not be possible with another distribution.

THANK YOU GENTOO DEVELOPERS!

In fact, I'm actively trying to convert anyone I know from different Bloatix flavors (you know, those big ones) to Gentoo. A nitro kernel booting into XFCE in under 60 seconds and the Windows version of UT2004 running as fast as on Windows do the trick for most :)

BLAGODARIA!

Thanks developers! This is in my opinion the easiest, most intuitive, and most powerful Linux distribution.

I'm a relative Linux newbie. I've had Linux since mid-August 2004, after I finally got fed up with WinXP being atrociously slow on my Celeron. Since then, I've learned SO much about Linux through all of your wonderful documentation. I also don't know where I'd be without portage. I probably would've given up a looong time ago. Since having gentoo set up on my system by a friend, I've installed it on another box and made a server out of it. :)

Thank you SO SO MUCH for a great distro and these wonderful forums for when I get myself into trouble. ^^;

Merci bien, pour la meilleure distribution de Linux!

I've tried Debian, Red Hat, Suse, Mandrake and Ubuntu, both for myself and for computer newbies and I always come back to Gentoo. The extra time it takes to install is by far outstripped by the power of Portage, and the wealth of different software packages available. Gentoo makes a desktop computer really USABLE in the real world...

Keep it up!

I gotta holla out a thanx as well. I had been using Debian and RedHat before Gentoo, and after my first Gentoo install there has been no turning back. I've never seen a distro so configurable, easy to use, and cutting-edge in all of my GNU/Linux experiences.

Gentoo is the shiznit!

I was about to say the same. Some days ago I tried to install Ubuntu on a spare partition, and the install wasn't able to mount it. I tried Debian Sarge and the sarge install, that resulted to be the same that Ubuntu uses, had the same problem. Thied to do an alternative installation using the debootstrap method, but no way. Gentoo is difficult to install, but Ubuntu is imposible :P

Gentoo Developers: Thank you! I have been using GNU / Linux for about 2 years, and Gentoo is by far the most extensible, is easy to maintain and upgrade, has high quality and complete documentation.

Gentoo Community: Thank you all as well. The fact that we have a large centralized user base that is helpful is reason alone to use Gentoo. :)

MUITO OBRIGADO!!

I have just installed it with a friends help. I got tired of widows because it simply doesn't operate, it should not be called an operating system but sumething like pseudo-operative-anoying-syswhatever.

I decided to isntall some distribution.... mandrake or red hat.... then i heard about debian having a usefull programs installation tool... them....Suse was by the day order! SUSE it will be! I asked the DVD to a friend but he said it would take a week...dam... after a week... "the guy i borrow the dvd to lost it, do u want to try my distribution (gentoo)"... well, thank god the lausy dvd got lost... GENTOO IS BETER!!!!!
Its amazing... the computer works really really beter and faster.... i like the idea of being compiled in my machine, it does increses the eficiency!
KDE is greatest, i haven't had contact with kde for a few years... dam its really great... a bit of a pity no office suite came with kde :(

onde again... OBRIGADO!

Tante Grazie per un lavoro straordinario

Using Gentoo is mostly exilarating, and with the portage overlay you
can do as you please. I remember the dark ages of RedHat 7.0.. I am
grateful for RedHat that brought me in LinuxLand, but I remember
the dependency hell and my attempts to build a rpm package... Brr...

With Gentoo even installing something like phpBB becomes accessible
to somebody that does not know what SQL stands for.

Everyday I find new programs to make life better, like RSS feeds aggredators,
outliners, players, and I can be sure that the unique portage tree has them
already, or will be soon.

I expect with trepidation portage-3.0 and it was cool to see the Gentoo
people ot FOSDEM05.

Live Long and code! :)
