|
|
I've recently emerged Gnome 2.2 and xfree 4.2.99.4 and my desktop now looks really gorgeous. But slower than before. In fact the slowness is unbereable in three cases:
- Menus, specially root menu. It takes about 5 secs to diplay menu
- Switching between workspaces takesas long as 10 secs!!!
- operations on CD-ROM
In all cases cursor blocks an all freezes while the operation completes.
What the hell is that? My gnome 2.0 xfree 4.2.1 worked really smooth. Where is the problem gnome, X, both, metacity...?

I have a geforce mx200 with last nvidia drivers and "nvidia" as driver in XF86Config.
Version of nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx is 1.0.4191-r1. By the way, it was updated when gnome 2.2 was installed.

Try putting Option "RenderAccel" (under server flags)
in your XF86Config since this option was turned off in the 4xxx versions by default |

RenderAccel doesn't have any noticeable effect. Anyway, doesn't seem an X problem becauseI've tried KDE and works well. It's a gnome 2.2 problem.

It's actually a NVidia driver problem. I had the same problem with the 4191 drivers, but everything cleared up with the old 3123 version. I'm just waiting for the next version from NVidia to clear this up... |

Well, I can confirm that the problem is nvidia driver. I've unmerged the last (4191) version an emerged 3123 and now it's ok.
Thanks!
