@ a13x : have you seen anything in this message related to reiser4 or " radix_tree_preload() " ?

thanks for all the work you put into this patchset and the info you provide. who is pifactorial? his wallpaper is *beep* great - a reason to switch back from love-sources to nitro-sources again :wink: (all i want is a fast, reliable kernel AND A WORKING CLOCK UPON SUSPENDING TO RAM. damn i hate to wait until ntpdate corrects the time while being inside a network blocking the time port).

Yes, I run reiser4 too.

My config is probably OK, it's the same as with the non-rt patchset, with all realtime thingies enabled.

config:

*edit removed, it's way to long, and probably not even the problem.

Yay! No breakage:
Code:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc5-r0 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) patch-2.6.11-rc5.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) linux-2.6.10.tar.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) patch-2.6.11-rc5-nitro0-rt.bz2
>>> Preparing to unpack ...
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking linux-2.6.10.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc5-r0/work
 * Applying patch-2.6.11-rc5.patch (-p0+) ...                             [ ok ]
 * Applying patch-2.6.11-rc5-nitro0-rt.patch (-p0+) ...                   [ ok ]
>>> Source unpacked.

a13x: Try USE="want-realtime". As for what they do, read Tiger683's posts - short answer: they're custom low-latency patches that speed up nitro.

If that one works, could you upload it somewhere? I want to play a bit with realtime on my reiser4 machine, but I didn't managed to get RT working with Reiser4 :(

Correct: i hope it'll work fine now....

This fix relates to the only thing that is related to reiser4 in the kernel AND is affected bythe realtime patches

I REALLY hope it works now...

Hey
I know only that You called me a "love whore" ;) propably in a fact that I`m joined to love-sources.
I told to darckness yesterday at #love-sources , that If You have something to me, then will be better If You will come and say it to me directly :)

Nitro, Love or anything else ... it`s no way to life , it`s only a patchset making and not good reason to name somebody a whore :) /* end of my talking */

Sorry accepted :P

Realtime-Preempt patches from ingo is the base for this patchset.

sched iso for O(1) is a nice addition. I know that RTP is designed for O(1) I was added it from time to time in vivid. But porting it to the Staircase isn`t impossible. Of course at now RTP is big , some time ago when the name was "Voluntary Preemption" It was not so difficult to make Staircase + VP , now it`s much bigger but in not full real time preemption mode - will be possible without a pretty much of work. However voluntary is not a full real-time.

cheers :)

in fact, but it b0rks quite a lot, staircase is just not designed for smooth transitions, and preempting in realtime NEEDS the prio arrays in addition to runqueues, to assure the smooth transitions and backing a task off directly after the sleep() starts or a lock is held, tasks hopping around the priority queue will not play nicely with it.

/me labels himself a dark-whore and he's dang proud of it

Anyway, RTP is something fun to work with, but I prefer staircase above all else, because staircase has the best overall setup for my use and still scales very well. Although RTP is a nice idea, it busts everything like nicksched and staircase, which to a person like me, thats unacceptable. I value being able to opt out things and insert new things without busting much (as in, repairable busting). If I get in the mood for some hard core hacking, I think I should try to port Voluntary preempt forward to 2.6.11 and fix any staircase breaks in the process, If I start on that people around here will surely know about it :).

Oops ! With the latest RT patch, black screen => hardlock when loading Xorg (with nvidia drivers) ... :/

The logs stops just before it should write
Code:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1024x768"
(II) Loading extension NV-GLX

EDIT : Works fine with the non-rt version ;)

NiLuJe: Did you change any part of your config between the switch? The problem you're describing occurs when you try to use nvidia agpgart when kernel agpgart is already loaded...

yeah ;)

btw. for me O(1) since some time (2.6.10 I think [after every past mm sched patch is in vanilla]) is also very good and playing really very well. Now other schedulers are not thumping O(1) as in the past becuase he is realli nice now :)

cheers.

could it then be that you try to emerge a version of nvidia other than r3?

EDIT: can anyone among the reiser4 ppl say anything to the hopefully fixed patch?
anyone reemerged after darckness applied the fix? please... **__**
