2.6.11-rc4-no1-update-and-fix.bz2

Get it at
http://no.oldos.org/files/2.6.11-rc4-no1/2.6.11-rc4-no1-update-and-fix.bz2
[!] Apply this to 2.6.11-rc4-no1

[!] Fixes To chmp and also added menu for it in the Features menu.

[!] I'm also using an older cvs snapshot of the madwifi drivers.
02-01-2005 due to the fact that the newer snapshot was highly
unstable.

[!] Some people were having problems compiling lirc. The fix is
Included in this update.

[!] =( Had to drop 1g low memory support as it needs more testing.
No-sources Team is working on it and it should be fixed in
the coming releases.

[NEW] Added madwifi cvs snapshot 02-23-2005 =)
New snapshot of lirc cvs 2-24-2005
Made a bttv fix that reverses the patches that were breaking it.
New 2.6.11-rc4-mm1 patchset.
Added Vesa-Tng to Features menu.
New port of Nicksched. Going into the broken-out directory =P.

[SEMINEW] Added defaultcfq.diff back in since we are going to be using cfqv2
Made some cleanups to the Features menu. I hope you guys like it.
Fixed the base_timeslice selections menu to actually work this time.

ebuild should work now!!

Everyone Thank joecool for fixing the ebuild. He had to hack it seeing as the
gentoo devs have been messing with eclasses.

[SEMINEW]
Nickschedv40
[CPU SCHED] It pretty much speaks for itself.

Some notes

REISER4 PEOPLE: USE 8K STACKS!
NVIDIA PEOPLE: MAKE SURE NVAGP IS SET TO 2 IN YOUR XORG.CONF

* Nividia Drivers 1.0.6629-r3 seems to work fine.
* Default I/O scheduler is Genetic Anticipatory. You can change on the fly by issuing a echo "cfq" > sys/block/hda/queue/scheduler
or the traditional elevator=scheduler as a kernel parameter

How to install Ebuild

Code:
1. download the ebuild
2. mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/no-sources
3. mv the ebuild to /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/no-sources (or wherever your PORTDIR_OVERLAY points to)
4. open /etc/portage/package.keywords (if it doesn't exist create it)

5. add "sys-kernel/no-sources ~x86" without the quotes and with the appropriate architecture (for me its ~x86")
6. ebuild no-sources-2.6.11_rc3-r1.ebuild digest
7. emerge no-sources
8. cd /usr/src/  No-Sources Kernel Tree should exist.
9. remerge any modules (nvidia...)

Get them at -->
http://no.oldos.org/files/2.6.11-rc4-no1/2.6.11-rc4-no1.bz2

http://no.oldos.org/files/2.6.11-rc4-no1/no-sources-2.6.11_rc4-r1.ebuild

Apply Over 2.6.11-rc4-mm1 if not using the ebuild.

Please post any additional patches you'd like to see in No-Sources and well see what we can do.

For further support join #no-sources on freenode

would love to try out your patchset here but the ebuild fails because of the following prob with your patch archive being incomplete

Quote:

bunzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly;
perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows.
bunzip2: No such file or directory
Input file = /home/rmh3093/2.6.11-rc4-no1.bz2, output file = /home/rmh3093/2.6.11-rc4-no1

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

bunzip2: Deleting output file /home/rmh3093/2.6.11-rc4-no1, if it exists.

Yes Its been brought to my attention that the ebuild is not working. Work is being done on it. This problem seems to be because of the eclass situation.
You can maybe wait for it to get fixed or you can apply the patch directly on top of 2.6.11-rc4-mm1. 2.6.11-rc4-no1.bz2 seems to be intact.

potatoface: Yes you can download it manually and add it to your distfiles directory. Usually in /usr/portage/distfiles.

everything compiled nicely, something from the -mm patches broke my orinoco driver, I couldnt figure it out

...but anyway, I was thinking, if you are going to be releasing your no-sources with each -mm release, why not inclued the -jedi patchs?

also, i think you should put fbsplash and vesafb-tng back in their origional places, most people know where to look for them, maybe you could move the config-nr-tty, iosched, (cflag hack, acpi_dsdt, config-hz) those are the more obscure or overlooked settings

....once I figure out this orinoco problem I can play with this some more

Good to hear that. I will look into the jedi patches. orinoco driver hmm , I'll look into that too. As for the menu your input is greatly appreciated. I'm just experimenting with it and gathering opinions on it. It will change troughout the releases till we have one that everyone likes.

dont wast you time looking into the orinoco problem, its most likely a prob with -bk pcmcia changes, i just worked out an IRQ prob with linus and my yenta_socket... now it seems to be some other issue,

anyway here is the link to those -jedi patches if u didnt already know ftp://ftp.c9x.org/pub/linux-kernel/

the patch set fixes errors and type-o's in -mm, I think he also includes 1gig_mem patch so if you reverse that before you apply -jedi the only thing that fails will probably be the main Makefile

Yes this was due to 1gb low memory changes. There is now a new update that fixes this problem.

Is the update to be applied after the update-and-fix or to replace the update-and-fix

The first post does need updating and yes the ebuild instructions are pretty much the same. There not me though, I'd write install instructions like "mv dark-sources-2.6.11-rc5-dark0 /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/dark-sources/ && INSERT EVERYTHING ELSE HERE" :) and 8kb stacks is general, you can use it to refer to not using 4kb stacks or whatever.

ted_Y_bear: Yeah we are going to replace update and fix with just the update. Ebuild should be done soon , but if would not like to wait then you can grab the file at www.no.oldos.org/files/2.6.11-rc4-no1/ then just apply it over no-sources 2.6.11-rc4-no1.

Tiger683 : I figured it would save me time. And I like the little summary BlinkEye created. But if it really bothers you I can make one of my own. I used this cause I place overlay ebuilds this way and why reinvent the wheel ?:D Hiya predatorfreak.

As i said, no flaming intended....
but honestly.. at least a part of it was copy&pasted, right...?

ok, we could have avoided this if you had just mentioned it somewhere,
just like we do about summary being from blinkeye, THEN its no prob for u
to use it in the future...

cheers,

T

sorry, if i sounded like being upset or something...
you work for your stuff just as hard as we do....
