Since my old distro had the 4191 drivers and worked well with them, I figured I'd install them here, so I did the following:
1) Added ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" to my make.conf file
2) emerge nvidia-kernel

Now it says that I need MTRR in my kernel to compile. I looked in my config, and MTRR is enabled! Why won't this ebuild work? Should I install the drivers from nvidia's source package?

Update: Now even the old drivers complain about "unresolved symbol mtrr_blah"

hmmm... did you try and emerge the right one ?

you can force it to emerge a particular ebuild by
Code:
emerge /usr/portage/link/to/ebuild

failing that... try re-building your kernel anyway.. perhaps the config was changed, but new kernel not built and / or copied to MOUNTED /boot

just a thought..

Oh, you have to mount /boot first? That explains it then... :D

Hey, I never compiled a kernel before and the install docs don't mention anything about recompiling a kernel after install. I guess it really is true about how much more you learn with gentoo rather than a binary-based install. :D
