PostPosted: Sun Feb 16, 2003 10:43 pm    Post subject: Wine and DC++? Reply with quote

I have been going crazy searching the net for some decent instructions on how to get dc++ running with wine. So far I have found nothing. The error msg I get when running dc++ is
"This version of windows common cotrols is too old, and you will probably experience problems with the user interface, you should download version 5.80 or higher from Microsoft."

After this I get up the dc++ user interface but I still cant use it to get in to a hub and the toolbar gets screzzed.

I have put this in the config file
[APPDefaults\\DC++.exe\DllOverrides]
"commctrl" = "native"
"comctl32" = "builtin"
"shdoclc" = "native"
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"
"comdlg32" = "native"
(pritty much just like kazaa light have)

and have copied theese .dll:s from win98se
to /home/me/.wine/fake_windows/Windows/System/
comctl32.dll (beeing windows common cotrols)
comdlg32.dll
commctrl.dll
msvcrt.dll
rasapi32.dll
shdoclc.dll
shdocvw.dll
shlwapi.dll
urlmon.dll
wininet.dll

I suggest using dctc and dc-gui. dc-gui is the front end to dctc and are linux native. Great p2p software that is in portage.

PostPosted: Mon Feb 17, 2003 7:23 am    Post subject: Using dc-gui or not. Reply with quote

Well I'm currently using dc-gui and sure it "works" but there are so many feature in dc++ that I simply can't live without. Possebilitys to code commands for bots, having diffrent nicks in favourites with diffrent passwords, sfv check and alot of added possibilitys to kick, browse, redirect, msg etc from main. Well there are simply to big gap between dc-gui and dc++.

So please help me, I know there are enough ppl out there who is looking for a chalange who can find a solution to the wine problem ;)

try the qt-dcgui

emerge qt-dcgui

run it via

dcgui (not dc_gui or dc-gui, just dcqui)

much better than the other gui, still requires dctc but has a much nicer interface.

Of course I'm @ the time using qt-dcgui. And it's this client that is far from the functionality of dc++. I have hard about the other client that it's even worst. What I really cant understand is that there seems to be a lot of people trying to get kazaa working with wine. But no one seems to be trying to get dc++ to work. Kazaa being one of the few things I despite in life I find this very sad.

Most of the features I need i specified in a previous thread. Another problem is that I'm connected as admin on about 30 hubs. there the windows handler in dc++ is alot better.

But alot of features especiallyt with bots are missing like having with right klick speed access to userinfo, kick + ban etc.

For some reason dc++ doesn't save your personal information under wine. My solution was that I copied my configuration file from windows partition and edited it with nano (just changed shared-files directories and d/l -directory). It works almost perfectly.

PostPosted: Mon Feb 17, 2003 12:43 pm    Post subject: XML file Reply with quote

I have edited my XML file manually so that is not the problem. The problem is that I don't get dc++ to work at all. The main screen gets gray and no text is shown the icons get squezed @ top and under settings the alternative box disaperes even thou I have manually specified them.

I think this problem is all about the env dll but I cant be tu sure. And I don't get wine working with the new dll:s from win98se.

Quote:
bash-2.05b# emerge -p qt-dcgui

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "qt-dcgui".

!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.

bash-2.05b# emerge -p dcgui-qt

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] net-p2p/dclib-0.2.20
[ebuild N ] net-p2p/dcgui-qt-0.2.20

would be more acurate (sorry to be a bitch)

I recomend the qt-dcgui, which works just fine for me in Gentoo, but if you want the Windows version, you can manually edit the config file from DC++, i did that too, and it worked :wink:

For some unknown reason upgrading wine always breaks one's previous windows installations... I do get the same error when using wine-20031212 and 20040121, however going back to 20031118-r1 seems to fix everything, just follow the HOW-TO in documentation forum.
