looks like my 3com 575 cardbus network card isnt recognized through pcmcia but hotplug. Problem is that hotplug is starting after net.eth0,sshd,cups,netmount which all fail to start. of course i can put 3c59x into /etc/modules.autoload but its more elegant to use hotplug ...

any idea?

You could add
Code:
need hotplug

to the depend() section of /etc/init.d/net.eth0
All the other services you mentioned require "net", so I think this would be all you need to do.
