I've seen this problem listed in this forum a couple of times, but the responses either didn't work or didn't apply to me.
this is my make.conf:
USE="qt kde -gnome gtk arts dvd oss X xmms"
this is the error I get when I run xmms:
benanderson root # xmms
ALSA lib control.c:612:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0
** WARNING **: snd_mixer_attach: No such file or directory
My sound card is compiled into the kernel ( not as module ). Everything else seems to work ok. CD's play, mplayer works fine.

maybe you have to add alsa to your USE variables?
other than that, I have no clue... |

yea, you might try emerge search xmms and see whether xmms-alsa (or something similar) is merged... if it is, unmerge everything with xmms and alsa in the title. I had the same problem a few months back.
hope that helps (and if it does, remember to set -alsa in yout USE variable in /etc/make.conf) _________________ http://www.apokalyptik.com/ |
