X takes very long time to start with Nvidia drivers

Ever since I got my geforce 3 ti 200, I of course started using the official nvidia drivers. For some reason, when using these drivers, it takes a very long time for X to start (which doesn't happen when using the stock nv driver with an otherwise equal X config file). I am currently using nvidia-glx/kernel 1.0.3123. Anything have any insight?

I don't know if this is related at all since if you change driver X works well, but I had mayor slowdowns starting X and solved that remerging fontconfig.
