|
|
I got Alsa working from command line, tested with amixer. Started KDE and went into the Control Center and set the sound server up, its test works. Emerged alsa-xmms and started it, no good. What could be flubbin up xmms? In the term that I started xmms from I get:
** WARNING **: oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/dsp): Permission denied
Can anyone help? Also, is there an alsa version of xplayer?
Thanks,
Sam |

OOPS, ok I found the preferences in XMMS, you actually have to turn alsa ON for it to work. javascript:emoticon('') |

Just a tip here, since you mentioned you were using KDE.
You should use the Arts output plugin (I think it's there by default, but you can emerge xmms-arts if not).
The benefit is that you take advantage of Arts' sound mixing abilities so you can hear other system sounds while XMMS is playing, which won't work if you use the alsa output plugin.
Note you will still be using Alsa, just via Arts which rides along on top. |
