|

Hi, all.
I'm just doing my first install of Gentoo Stage 1 on a Sun Ultra 30 (sparc64). All is going well (phew!). I am now at Part 6c and want to run the bootstrap script (bootstrap.sh). I need to cd to /usr/portage, but for some reason I don't have a portage directory under /usr. Can anybody help, as I don't think I can progress any further.
Thanks,
Chris. |

Did you "emerge --sync" yet ?
This is what populates the /usr/portage directory. |

Got a "-3 temporary failure in name resolution"
Should I be doing it in the chroot environment. Surely I don't have to do the emerg sync, as I downloaded a fresh stage 1 tarball.
Would like to get this working, so please tell me if you think i've got it all wrong.
Failing this it could be back to an old looking and slower Debian.
Thanks,
Chris. |

Before entering the chroot environment, do this
Code: | # cp -L /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/ |

You should "emerge --sync" inside the chroot environment, and yes you do need to do this because the stage tarball does not include the portage tree. |

Cyrillic,
cp' my resolve.conf into /etc, and did emerge --sync within chroot. It's doing something...will keep you posted. Must read-up on chroot, as it has obviously confused me.
Cheers,
Chris. |
