Well... my friend hooked me up with GenToo... and I love it... well, I was emergeing differnt programs... and I relized I didnt have sound... so I read about Alsa Sound... tryed to get it working... not much luck, well... I turn the machine off after a few hours... and now Eth0 isnt working  ... I guess its not finding the network card at all now. I now it had something to do with some of the commands I was topld to use on the Alsa Setup area of the GenToo Docs... I think it might of ben the clean dev... or whatever. Anyways... I have no clue on how to get it to see my NIC... whats the deal... somebody please list the stuff and the commands that I need to do in order for it to work using DHCP again. Heres the info on the network card:

Realtek 8139D 10/100

Thanks again guys....
And by the way... the sooner I get this fixed the better... I sold my WinBloz machine so this is my only box that I have to play with... I need to get it running again ASAP :!:

If you didn't reboot the machine between the initial install and this incident, then it is possible that your kernel doesn't have support for your nic.

What is the output of the following commands:
  • dmesg |grep eth
  • ifconfig -a

No... dude... i had it running for awhile no problems shutting down and then back on the network worked fine.... its after this freakin gay7 assed ALSA drivers guide in the docs area that messed everything up... the

dmesg |grep eth = gets nothing
ifconfig -a get the LO: Loop back stuff

I used to see the Eth0 in there... now nothing thanks to the damn Alsa sound docs... anyways, I have tryed to make a load the module 8139too and when i:

make dep
make modules
make modules_install

then I: insmod 8139too
but when I mod prob i get an error saying it failed.... so im stumped.
