I dont hear any sound notifications when i recive a message.
The option is turned on and the method is set to ESD, but when i try to test the sound it won't work. Is it an error in the sound driver, the program or do i need some sound files? |

I thought there was someone who said Esound was good for a bleep... AND ONLY A BLEEP
Try it with sox
In gaim>options>sound
sound method "command"
sound command "play %s"
That should fix your problem.. |

"esound is junk. The only thing esd has is a good client API for going boing
at approximately the right time. Anything else is beyond it."

If you're using Gnome, u need to start the sound server. Its in the Gnome menu somewhere under Preferences or Settings. With the sound server started, u should get sounds in Gaim using ESD.
Let us know if this helps!

pheelay:
Im guessing it's running, since im listening to music using xmms already =)
Krisserferson:
Thanks, got it to work.. Didnt need sox.. What is sox?
Two more questions:
How do i share the sound driver between xmms and gaim? So that two sounds can be played simultaneously. And whats the best sound driver and why? |

hmmm, well I needed to start the sound server even tho I had sound in xmms! It looks like xmms goes straight to my OSS driver but gaim doesn't. Of course I don't use Gnome anymore - in fluxbox sound works in gaim but i dont know how really!!
well, there ye are!! Good luck!
