Recently i got a viewsonic viewpanel (VA800) and it works very good with gentoo but i have this behaviour when x starts that i cannot fix. hence i submit to you, gurus of the hardware forum.
when x starts it displays this pattern made of black and white dots, like a lattice, then x comes up. whenever this "lattice" pattern is displaying the monitor shows like static, that's for lack of better words the best way i can describe it.
if i attempt to use let's say xterm, which has a lattice patterned scrolbar i can see the same effect only on the scrollbar area. same when i use vmware to run windows and i shut down the session and windows displays this kind of pattern.
i have a laptop also running gentoo and i doesn't do the same.
how do i get read of this? is it timings? bad freqs on the XF86Config?
any help is appreciated.

It definitely sounds like timing/freq settings. Where are you getting the frequency and timing info?
For starters, I'd suggest trying smaller resolutions and more conservative frequency ranges and see if the problem persists. _________________ Man must shape his tools lest they shape him. |

thanks for your reply, Carlos.
I took the configuration from the monitor manual, then tryied the more conservative Horizotal and Vertical values that xf86config recommends for flat pannels.
HorizSync was 30-82 (as per the manual) then 31.5-64.3 as per xf86config.
VertRefresh was 50-75 on the manual and remained that way, even as xf86config recommends 50-70.
At any rate the "static" still persists with both configurations.
I run the monitor on it's native resolution of 1280x1024. It actually looks better after making the change to the recomended-by-xf86config value of HorizSync.
Unfortunately there is no info on google about this monitor and a working XF86Config.

you might want to try setting your VertRefresh to 60hz only. Most panels are only hitting that anyways (they work differently than tubes, 60hz refresh isnt bad on a panel..)
I have this same issue on an nvidia based box.. using analog for the input versus dvi. Ill play with the timings and see what happens. _________________ Everyone has something clever for a signature but me. |
