One other problem is the fact that a number of those threads are not in english. And since some people don't speak the different languages (or some non-english speakers don't speak english) that creates a communication barrier. I, personally, speak Ukrainian, ok German and Russian. I'd be happy to translate stuff so that others may get the help that they need. Ya'll jus hafta holer . |

I have learnt many things through the forums. I now scan the un-answered threads and if i know the answer i'll reply
After so many gentoo users have helped me< i am really glad that I can help back (as long as it's simple )

I wonder what everyone is going to do about threads with 0 replies when they can't be replied to. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Is there a way to filter out those messages in locked boards (Dustbin, Announce...) and those with SOLVED in the subject? _________________ Catch me on Jabber: joeljkp@jabber.org |

I have learned a lot by going to the unanswered posts and trying to answer, because the ones that I do not know usually get answered and I keep following them. Plus it gives you a great feeling to know that you helped someone with an annoying or worse problem. _________________ Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice. |

I'll tell you what. I talked with the forum administrators and they agreed that for every unanswered post you reply to, they will increase your "Posts" value by 1. There, are you happy?

Oh, sorry. Please increase the sarcasm modifier on my previous post by 10 points.
I just found this thread today, have started answering unanswered posts, and have added this topic to my sig.

Unanswered [SOLVED] posts seem to show up quite often in the unanwered list because the orgininal author merely edits his original post with the solution instead of replying.
What does everyone think would be the best course of action for this type of post?

O.k. I try to be helpful when I have some spare time. Is there a way I can filter for stuff I actually know about?
For example, I'm somewhat samba savvy, so I'd like to search for Unanswered Posts regarding samba
How can I do that? (and if this is a stupid question, or I'm a stupid person, I apologize in advance) |

Just go the the search page and try to find relevant threads. The presence of replies doesn't necessarily mean a question is solved. _________________ Please read our FAQ Forum, it answers many of your questions.

I try as much as I can to search the forums when I am looking for the answer to a question or a problem I am having. The search feature, especially the Quick Search in the upper right hand corner, likes to drop much of what you are using for search terms. It'll drop words, drop dots, dashes, endings, parts of words, etc.
It is difficult to search the forums when the search function doesn't like your search terms. Granted I/we could use Google to search the forums, it would be nice to not have to go outside of the forums to do our searching. That's just my opinion. Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing. |
