I have a similar problem, however, when I CTRL-c it, nothing happens, except an extra line is printed.
I can't open it at all. I think that the problem happend either when I emerged avi-xmms or when I ran emerge -u world.
I'm trying to remember which packages it updated.
I know there was a perl update, as well as 2 vim updates, but I don't remember what else. My aterm buffer ran out of space, and the only clues I have left are from the etc-update that I ran immediatly afterwards:
Code: |
[mascot:~] > sudo etc-update
Scanning Configuration files...
The following is the list of files which need updating, each
configuration file is followed by a list of possible replacement files.
1) /etc/profile
/etc/._cfg0000_profile
2) /etc/init.d/halt.sh
/etc/init.d/._cfg0000_halt.sh
3) /etc/init.d/localmount
/etc/init.d/._cfg0000_localmount
4) /etc/modules.d/aliases
/etc/modules.d/._cfg0000_aliases
|
I don't really use the profile, as I have my own .tcshrc file. I can't imagine localmount or halt changing anythng, and the aliases file was thrown out as my old version was more up-to-date. _________________ There are thousands of types of people in this world:

If it matters, I can't access xine anymore, as it seems to be missing a library, or a path was changed. Hmmm, maybe the profile change did mess me up. Hmmm.
Code: |
[mascot:~] > xine
xine: error while loading shared libraries: libxineutils.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
|
I will keep looking. _________________ There are thousands of types of people in this world:

A couple of people recently have reported trouble with xmms after emerging avi-xmms. Unmerging it seems to fix the problem. I also had trouble with it in kde if arts was running. Unmerging arts (or not running kde) fixed that problem. Hope that helps a bit. |

hi,
i just unmerged all xmms stuff, delete tmp and source an merged only xmms new.. no success.
I found in my logfiles, that one of the last things I merged new, was perl with an update world....

Strange, simply unmerging avi-xmms worked for me..
Still.. it's silly that avi-xmms makes your xmms unusable :) _________________ What if God smoked cannabis...

I unmerged avi-xmms as well, and I'm still not getting any xmms love. I also emerged an update for perl, and perhaps that caused it.
Stupid perl. Python always was better!
That's just a joke, please don't flame me. _________________ There are thousands of types of people in this world:

I am having the same problem xmms, I pruned old version, removed plugins, recompiled, not getting anywhere. Hopefully someone will come up with some leads on this one... I feel like some of my older packaged gcc 2.9.x are messing this up somewhere along the line even with gcc-compat. I will continue investigating this, if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. |
