|

I've scoured the net and I can't find a solution for this. I've recently installed gentoo on my Ultra 60 and I got xorg to work but I can't change the resolution to anything besides 640x480. I've tried all sorts of xorg.conf configurations, many horizsync/vertrefresh combinations and even specifying my own mode lines and nothing seems to work. I'm using a 15" LCD that can do 1024x768. Also, it may be of note that xorgcfg cannot load. It hangs up when it tries to load the sun video drivers but works fine if I remove those drivers from the directory.
Here's the end of my xorg log file:
GetModeLine - scrn: 0 clock: 100000000
GetModeLine - hdsp: 640 hbeg: 640 hend: 640 httl: 640
vdsp: 480 vbeg: 480 vend: 480 vttl: 480 flags: 0 |

Do you have an ATI card by any chance?
If so, you might wanna specify the reference_clock
option in the device section. Look for the right value
for your card via google.
And about the Modelines, you are using gtf, right? Pre-compute
a couple of modelines and stick them in your xorg.conf.

No ATI card, its a Creator3d. I did however try the reference_clock option just for kicks and it didn't help. I inserted a bunch of gtf generated ModeLines in the Monitor Section of my xorg.conf and they all seemed to be ignored. I still get just that one ModeLine output in the xorg log file and nothing else. I know that both the card and the monitor can do higher resolutions; I just don't understand why X won't let me! |

Your X server resolution should be the same size as your console resolution on the Creator 3D. You shouldn't need a modeline to make it work, just set the resolution in OBP. Check the Gentoo SPARC FAQ for more information.
In the odd chance your console resolution is higher than your X server resolution, you can use the command "fbset -x" to print out your current console resolution in an X modeline. |

Thanks! That did the trick. Who knew it would be exactly the same as the procedure for solaris? |
