per chi fosse interessato il kernel puo utilizzare piu partizioni SWAP su dischi diversi pero a patto che siano montai con la stessa priorità

/dev/hda3  swap swap defaults,pri=1 0 0

cosi da peremttere all sitema di dispore delle 2 partizzioni SWAP che se trovano sui dischi impostati come master del canale Eide primario e secondario

cosi dovreste andare piu veloci ........

Avete ragione e torto entrambi.

Se il sistema e la swap si trovano sullo stesso disco ha ragione Josuke.
Se il sistema e la swap si trovano su canali IDE differenti vengono usati in parallelo e ha ragione rota.
Se swap e sistema sono su dischi diversi ma sullo stesso canale credo che qualche lievissimo miglioramento ci sia per effetto della cache del disco. Credo.

In ogni caso non stiamo parlando di miglioramenti strabilianti ;-)

Ah ecco dimenticavo, se i dischi sono scsi dovrebbe essere come l'IDE su canali differenti.

Josuke, se non usi la swap ovviamente non hai miglioramenti :-P

rota non ti preoccupare nessuno mette in discussione la veridicità del tuo tip :). Solo dubito che l'incremento di prestazioni sia sensibile..anzi a mio avviso sarebbe impercettibile..anche perchè la swap ormai viene utilizzata il meno possibile (fortunatamente visto che la ram è molto più veloce)

Anche perchè imho, se uno si riduce a dover parallelizzare la swap per aumentare di qualche infinitesimo le prestazioni della propria macchina, farebbe meglio ad aggiungere un po' di RAM per avitare che venga usata la swap, in questo caso si guadagna in prestazioni in modo sensibile... non è per far polemica, sia chiaro, ma per completezza di informazione: meglio aumentare la RAM e non usare la swap. Se uno è poi affezionato alla swap o vuole/deve (?) usarla, ben venga il tip.

Scusa meglio la RAM che usare un swap. L'accesso al disco (swap) e' molto ma molto piu' lento che l'accesso alla RAM

rota per carità, la swap conta... Solo che vuoi mettere la velocità di un disco rigido con quella della RAM? la swap è sicuramente utile perché permette al tuo SO di promettere alle applicazioni più ram di quanta ne ha realmente, e se proprio vogliamo fare un'appunto un accesso rapido alla swap è utile ed apprezzabile, ma io punterei piu per utilizzare partizioni di swap piccole, magari due su due ide diversi messe in software raid 1, e spendere 2 lire di RAM aggiuntiva... Così le prestazioni crescono un pochino di più ;P beh IMHO ovvio...

Penso che tu ti stia confondendo col raid 0, altresì noto come stripping.
Il raid 1 (mirroring) non aumenta le prestazioni, ma (come dice il nome) fa un'immagine del I disco sul secondo, indi non migliora le prestazioni, ma la sicurezza.
Altra nota, i miglioramenti di un software raid (come di un "bios raid") non sono molti, soprattutto perchè vanno ad aumentare (a volte sensibilmente) il carico di lavoro della CPU.
La cosa migliore sarebbe un controller raid "vero" magari su un bus pci a 66Mhz, ma la cosa costa.
