The whole story is:
Lately I bought an external HDD case (Welland ME-340U2F) and a 160GB WD Caviar disk with 8MB of cache. I had no problems with turning it on and making partitions. The problems occured not so long ago, when I was watching a movie (from the external HDD) - mplayer had just locked up, it was the first time I saw something like that. When I looked at the movie partition I found something like:

Code: Select all

Movies $ ls
        . . 2.f e. µ1µ1.µ1³ µ1µ1?.ö1w ö1ö1.ö1? t v.r
        . . 2.f i.s µ1µ1.µ1ù m.o ö1ö1?.s1y t.
        . 2. a. µ1$2?.ö1w µ1µ1?.ö1µ ö1ö1?.î1? o.a »1»1.»1¼
        . %2%2?.%2° a.p µ1µ1.µ1ä µ1µ1?.ö1µ ö1ö1?.î1¿ p.t v.
That didn't look good. I looked at the logs and foud something like that:

Code: Select all

I can tell you that this is the thing, but I can't manage to get it working properly. I found something about the serialize_io (I have sbp compiled into the kernel, so I added it to /etc/modules.conf at the very end, maybe it should be somewhere else? Do you know how to check, whether the serialize_io is set?), but that doesn't help at all. I'll be glad if someone could point me something I'm missing here.

Oww... I forgot to add, that when I restart the computer all files become normal again except for the one that was being used at the time the error occured. I lost many films this way until now, and I don't want to lose any more. HELP!
