rougly 1.5 seconds that ain't a long time is it???????
I'm using ReiserFS it rulez when it comes to this, tried Xfs when I first installed gentoo, then I tried reiserfs and was shocked.. It has a database like filestructure. So that's why......
Furthermore I have a Quantum Fireball 30Gb/AS
which gets about 34Mb/s outer and 29Mb/s inner.
Athlon 1.2 (133fsb) ... 256MB RAM.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, this should happen with portage 2.0 -- my understanding is they're moving to a real database backend (berkely DB?) so searching should be much, much faster.

I thought it was the Firebird ( http://firebird.sourceforge.net/ ) database. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Could very well be -- I'm not sure where I got Berkely from. There's been a lot of confusion around the portage 2.0 technologies (C++ vs. python, etc.) so I probably picked up some of that confusion.

I've seen quite a few programmers moving away from BerkeleyDB lately, I really would prefer that Firebird was used but of course that decision isn't mine to make _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |
