Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)
Im not sure exactly what the problem is. I am running a Compaq Presario 700. I was able to set up my card with hardly any effort when i installed using 2004.2 and 2.6.7 kernel. I decided to upgrade harddrives so i installed 2004.3 and 2.6.9-r9. During the second install it took alot of work to get the card working. After the install it isnt recoginsing the card. I think it also isnt recognising the pcmcia. I enabled pcmcia in the kernel. But I am just confused at why this isnt working. If anyone could help that would be great.
ok when i boot the computer even when the card is in the slot it goes through the normal stuff until almost the very end when it says
* Starting pcmcia...
cardmgr[6034]: no sockets found!
* cardmgr failed to start. Make sure that you have PCMCIA
* modules built or compiled into the kernel [!!]
* Bringing eth1 up (192.168.1.100) . . .
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth1: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCDIFBRDADDR: No such device
eth1: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device [!!]
then it continues to finish booting. Ive recompiled the kernel a few times making sure that i enabled pcmcia. In the live cd i boot with "gentoo dopcmcia" but it dosent authenticate the connection. Then i do net-setup eth1 and i've tried all the different ways of configureing the card, but i still cant get it to work. Mabie there is a simple step that i have forgetten.
I have a similar problem with PCMCIA support with 2004.3 and 2.6.x kernel. I had support switched on in the kernel, linking in the external PCMCIA module wouldn't work (tells me the kernel has bult-in support). Yet everytime I boot the box it tells be cardmgr can't start because there's no support blah blah blah.
Yeah, I checked menuconfig and the PCMCIA option is enabled. There's a bunch of stuff under it (e.g. debugging) that aren't. Will that make a difference?
ive tried many combonations of PCMCIA, and yes it is enabled. That would be way to simple. but then agin it must be a simple mistake that im making or there would be more things on the fourms about this.
