this isn't a Guideline violations, duplicates or misplaced post... More along the lines of a suggestion.

Is it possible to have a sticky thread where it says what games need the original disk or extra bits that aren't on portage? Part of this thread could then be made into a games section in the Gentoo Documentation repository.

or how about having an extra USE flag called say USECD

That way when you do say a emerge ut2004 -vp it will list the USECD flag and thus you know it needs the CD's

Perhaps something similar to fetch restriction? Or is there already something like that, I must admit I haven't tried.

what about a section in portage where you need extra information not on portage games-extra or something along those lines.

Perhaps the best way isn't playing with portage but having it in documentation, i could do a page for swift if people wrote down which games (like Descent 3) needed other files from a different source.

Good idea. This could be as simple as appending "Needs CD" to the short description in the ebuild.

Start it, and I'll sticky it.

cokehabit,
good idea. i've gone through some frustrating trials that would've been prevented if such a document existed. see my thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=264998
