|

When doing:
env ALSA_CARD='emu10k1' emerger also-driver
as per the ALSA documentation's instructions, the emerging gives me a "#error you lose." when working on timex.h, then spits out a few errors (error 1s and 2s) then tells me:
Code: |
!!! ERROR: media-sound/alsa-driver-0.9.0_rc6 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 61, Exitcode 2
!!! Parallel Make Failed
|
I have sound installed in the kernel, but my Creative Labs SBLive! Value as a module.
Oh, and #cat /proc/pci | grep audio gives me what I expected...
Help? |

I get a very similar error, but only when using ck-sources as my kernel. What kernel are you using? |

Better discussed at Multimedia forums.

You need kernel sound support compiled as a module, not into the kernel. |

As stated in the Gentoo Alsa Guide you not only want to have soud support compiled as a module you want to remove all other drivers for sound cards. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Okay, it's working great now I was just confused (lulled?) by the phrase: "Possibly, this will also work when you built Sound Card Support in the kernel (U) instead of building it as a module (M)." It doesn't work at all when built into the kernel
Thanks again... Now for the next step... |

I also use ck-sources and since the ck-sources come with their own implementation of the alsa driver there's no need to emerge the portage/alsa-driver, in fact doing so will cause an error.
So let's say I want to upgrade/install a package that will want to also emerge the alsa-driver, I then do
$USE="-alsa" emerge package_name |
