|
|
I've had my 2x200Mhz Ultra2 running forever.
I just got 2 400Mhz procs for it.
I was all excited but then tragedy struck.
One of my new 400's was DOA
And no chance of a replacement, monetary refund only.
So, now I have 1 Ultra 2
2 200Mhz UltraSparc I's
and 1 400Mhz UltraSparc II
I'm trying to decide whether to keep the 400 in
by itself or put the 2 200's back in.
The biggest problem is I cannot tell which is faster.
The 400 seems faster but the system seems far less
responsive than with the 2x200Mhz.
I've got a lot of emerging to do and
I'd like to know which setup will do it faster.
Any experience/thoughts are appreciated.

I'll wager the 400 will be faster for single tasks and the 2x200 for multiple, simultaneous tasks.
I also suggest you return both 400s for a full refund and put that money toward a new AMD64 system instead |

I've already got a Athlon64 Laptop
and I have officially decided that I will not
have enough free cash in a reasonable amount
of time to build a complete AMD64 tower,
but I can afford to upgrade my Ultra2 a bit.
I figure that with dual 400's, 1GB of ram,
a Creator3D/FFB2+ and 2 new 10,000RPM
18GB drives it should be much faster.
Only problem for the moment is one of the CPU's is
dead. But all those upgrades in total
cost me only $260, which is almost all I had to spend
and roughly the price of only the motherboard
for any AMD64 system I would build.
Just for reference, prior to upgrade my system was:
2x200Mhz UltraSparc I
256MB ram
2x 4.2GB 7200RPM drives
Creator3D/FFB

1x400 will be faster than 2x200, but 2x200 will be a lot more responsive.
