|
|
Noob.
*Ultra2 E 2 x 300mhz, Turbgrfx video, 2 x 36gig ultra 160 Seagate drives, cdrom, 1024 ram, oldstyle keyboard (type 5 I think).
*Boot from Universal CD.
*Downloaded 12/8/04 latest sparc64 stage 3 and portage
*/dev/sda1 = 1024 mb
*/dev/sda2 = 2048 mb (swap)
*/dev/sda3 = sun disk
*/dev/sda4 = 10000Mb
*/dev/sda5 = 10000Mb
*/dev/sda6 = the rest
1) Everything works fine up to make && dep make clean modules modules_install.
2) Since Ultra2E has not bluetooth, pci, usb components, I have removed them from Kernel choices. I have followed the instructions "to the letter."
3) When the compile gets to math-emu it seems to pass..then goes to modules...and bombs on keyboard...I think.
4) I have tried with keyboard and mouse as <M> and as <*> in the options. Same issue.
5)Any help I will be most grateful for.
6)My inexperience, I'm sure, is the root of the issue.

Seen this before. "Input core support" has a hidden dependency on PCI, so remove "Input core support". All your input devices will still work fine without it. |

You can:
... this will cut a huge amount of debug symbol information out of the binary, and could likely reduce that 4.4MB to under 3.6MB. I wouldn't reccomend PCI support, BTW, better to drop input core support as a U2 doesn't have hotplug input (USB keyboards/mice etc) anyway. |

I took your advice.
I turned off pci and core input
Now down to 2.9 Mb!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for letting me know..
Now if I can just figure out how to setup fstab and silo.conf. _________________ The next kernel rev has never addressed the basic problem: my innate incompetence. |

Should be straightforward, post your disk layout here if you have any questions (might be a good idea to make a new thread). |
