I'm about to emerge apache and I was wondering why I shouldn't use Apache2...

I would have thought that apache 2 would be neatly supported but everyone is still using apache 1. However, there aren't many modules for apache 2 I believe....

Compiling goes without troubles, but the previous version made PostNuke look like a gdb backtrace... haven't taken the time to try the latest though...

I have ACCEPT_KEYWORDS"~x86" set and 2.0.x emerged by default. Since I just run a simple, personal web site I don't really care about most of the modules. Also, I couldn't convince myself that installing an older version was a good idea since 2.0 is mostly not backward compatible.

Of course I was starting from scratch. For those who have existing setups that would have to be reconfigured, it would be a different story.

I think I want to use Apache2, but I don't want to use ~x86 for the rest of my system. How should I do this? And I still would like to know why it's in unstable. It has a use flag, so the choice between 1.4.x (with more modules) and 2.x would still be there.

Try typing this command:

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge apache

You may want to install things like php, mod_php, mod_ssl, etc the same way too.
