the gentoo printing guide says at one point to look for my printer model in /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/...
well, my hp deskjet 500 isnt listed in there, what should i do?
is there a way to generate a .xml file for that? (kinda like the ppd-o-matic thingy) or is there some other model i could use thatd end up the same and work for my 500?
thanks in advance

I did as "stefanvt" did in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=31821 when he found my drivers... I did som grepping and found this.
Code:

# grep -H 500 /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/* |grep HP
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/173888.xml:    <en>Under Mandrake 7.0-2 printing is perfectly with the HP 500 series driver.</en>
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/59328.xml:    <en>This, the model 4078-002, can emulate a HP DeskJet 500C.
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/68320.xml:&br&compatible with HP 500c in Windows DOS box.
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/Lexmark-4076.xml:    <en>Works with drivers for the HP DeskJet 500</en>

Read https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=31821, it's the same thing, but with another printer.

And see if you have all the modules in the kernel that "rensi" writes...

You might want to take a look at this link.

You can also use this link to generate a ppd file for your DJ500.

BTW this was my first inkjet printer. Nice little printer :)
