Greets all, this is my first time actually posting with a problem. I'm usually able to find my problems already answered on the board. But not this time, if this has already been posted, please forgive me.
I'm doing an 'emerge --update world" which is updating my kde 3.0 to 3.0.1 It seems to want to compile RPM (although using Gentoo I have little or no use for it) as a dependency. Anyway, when it compiles it keeps dying with the following:
First I get about 30 or so of the following (this seems to happen a lot over the course of the compile)
Code: | dbconfig.c:line number: warning: pointer of type 'void *' used in arithmetic |
Then this:
Code: | dbconfig.c: In function 'prDbiOpenFlags':
dbconfig.c:531: 'POPT_BIT_SET' undeclared (first use in function)
make[2]: *** [dbconfig.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/rpm-4.0.4-r2/work/rpm-4.0.4/rpmdb'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: *** Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/rpm-4.0.4-r2/work/rpm-4.0.4'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
!!! ERROR: the make command did not complete successfully.
!!! ("make")
!!! Since this is a critical task, ebuild will be stopped.
!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/app-arch/rpm/rpm-4.0.4-r2.ebuild .
|
please excuse typos if any, I had to type that all by hand
I tried deleting the 'rpm-4.0.4-r2.ebuild' file so it would use 'r1' thinking perhaps it's just a little programming error, but r1 gave me the same result.
I looked at the USE variables to see if something like "rpm" was in there so I could just remove it and not have to worry about it (as far as I know I have no use for it in Gentoo). But I saw none. Anyone have any ideas? Either a way to get it to compile right OR a way to alter USE variables or something so it's not considered a dependency anymore (if that's even possible), would be a great help.
Thanks in advance, Gentoo is an awesome distro. |

Has anyone tracked down exactly where this dependancy is coming from? It's certainly annoying. I'm using Gentoo (and not Redhat) for a reason.

Try masking the package in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask. Make sure you use the -p switch next time you try to update in case that severely borks something (though it shouldn't)
BTW, I got the exact same error message when trying to compile rpm -- you might want to check bugs.gentoo.org to see if a bug has been filed on this issue.

Thanks for the help.
I searched for a bug report but did not find one, So I filed a new report, hope I didn't write up a so-called "bad bug report"
Also I tried masking RPM, did an "emerge --pretend --update world" and it got pissed off, it tells me:
Quote: | !!! Error: couldn't find match for >=app-arch/rpm-4.0.4-r1 in kde-base/kdeadmin-3.0.1 |
so, it looks like it's required. Oh well. Hope the bug fixers can squish this one quickly. |

Hi.
Had the same problem while updating KDE 3.0 -> KDE 3.0.1. Think you have to unmerge rpm before starting the emerge of kde.
But this has been allready mentioned in the forum and has been posted to bugzilla. You haven't found it there ? |
