Yesterday, I was just messing around on my system, and noticed a directory had been made in / - it's name consisted of a single chr(1) apparently. There were no contents in it, and it occupied one block apparently. Nothing bad happened from deleting it, and the system still appears to work as before.

Has anyone ever noticed any file system oddities like this? This is on ext3 by the way. It just slightly worries me that something could be corrupting things like that.

Have you been trying to do any wierd piping by hand, experimentation or anything?

I know when I was experimenting with scp and netcat (not together) I had a file by the name of an IP address, and a couple other files by other wierd names that I attributed once I looked at them ot misinterpretation of the piping.

Haven't been trying any of that stuff. Even if so, it shouldn't result in a single chr(1) directory I'd imagine. Seems to be something pretty strange.

I haven't changed anything from defaults in that regard, so I don't think that should be an issue.
