wine = no sound, I can play sound fine with xmms, and that's pretty much everything I use with sound.

any programs to diagnose what part of sound works and such for linux? (maybe I should give dxdiag a try ;) ).

quake3 - runs great (yes I know there is a linux build)
Sof2 - runs great

only ones I'v really tried yet, but I can't get any sound :( (tried quite a few things, including the wine no sound stuff, such as recompiling with DS_EMULDRIVER on), any suggestions?

hell, my sound may be muted for all I know, though xmms can play (has it's own sound level?)

hmm.. default mplayer gives no sound, mplayer with sdl works fine.

think this is a sound related problem, not a wine related problem.

please move to all things gentoo

anyone got any ideas? think a vital part of my sound system isn't working

xmms works fine
mplayer works in sdl, not in default
wine doesen't work at all

any sound apps that I can use to test what works and what doesen't?

(running audigy-emu10k1 driver)

// edit

maybe my alias lines in modules.conf are screwed up, a lot of alsa stuff in there, and I dont use that (get crappy sound quality :/ ).

any information on what should be set anyway?

for example, I got alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1 in there, should that be set to emu10k1, or is it only used by alsa anyway?

and
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore

//edit2

found a alsa thing in /etc/modules.d which kinda screwed my aliases up, fixed it, also added (like it said it the audigy instalation instructions)

alias sound emu10k1
alias sound-service-0-0 sound
alias sound-slot-0 sound

nothing changed though

also, /dev/mixer is owned by root:root and points to /dev/sound/mixer, which is owned by root:audio, and got the right flags.

that means I can write to /dev/mixer right? (even if it's read only, as it only redirects me to /dev/sound/mixer, which I can write to, as member of the audio group).

not that I think this is the problem, won't work if I'm root either ;)
