Hello, i have got the base package installed and compiled X (12hrs)

I have run xfree86config but have not been able to get x session running, i have looked in these and other forums and on linux on laptop, the few examples i found do not work.

i have just gone through xfree86config again with the basic vga setup i can do but get error:

addScree/Screenlnit failed for driver 0

When running xfee86config i cannot see ref to the neomagic 128 zv, also the top 5 lines of keyboard choice do not display, this is because the machine only has a 8.4" tft svga lcm 640x480 screen, as the key board only has 85 keys i am not sure what to choose so have been selecting 1.

Also not sure of screen setting so have been selecting 31.5 and 60, which work with RH.

any help appriciated ?

kudos to you for trying this!

Just yesterday I revived my wife's 6-year-old Dell laptop with Gentoo Linux. It uses a NeoMagic 128 chip (MagicGraph 2090)

I will post the X configuration file at
http://www.nrao.edu/~bwaters/projects/gentoo

The NeoMagic 128zv is a more recent chip that the one I'm using; it should support the video modes you need.

You will need to edit the Screen subsections, to set up the display resolution that you're using.

Thanks to Evan Prodromou for his write-up at
http://evan.prodromou.san-francisco.ca.us/Dell-Latitude-XPi-P133ST-mini-HOWTO.html
!!!

I can't help with the keyboard configuration, but note that older Macintosh computers have very few keys on the keyboard; perhaps a search for Mac X keyboard configurations will shed some light...

Hope this helps...
