Has any of you managed to make pcmcia work? whenever i insert a pc card (i tried just with different 16bit cards i have here at the university) and none of them is recognized at all... so it tries to load the memory_cs module that is not found.

I've had exactly the same problem on my aspire 1511lc and then I found this: http://cmb.phys.cwru.edu/kisner/linux/compaq-r3000/

u've got to put in your /etc/pcmcia/config.opts
this:
include port 0x100-0x4ff
include port 0x800-0x8ff
include port 0xc00-0xcff
include port 0x3000-0x7fff
include memory 0xe0100000-0xe17fffff
include memory 0xc0000-0xfffff
include memory 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff
include memory 0x60000000-0x60ffffff

and then it looks to work just fine

I've a question about xorg.conf and lcd for 1513lmi\1511lmi.

In http://casteyde.christian.free.fr/laptop/LinuxOnAspire1511LMi.html about
display is said:

15'' XGA TFT LCD, 1024x768 16M, 85Hz

but I've found in Xorg.0.log that this display is:

range of 29.00-49.00 kHz
range of 0.00-60.00 Hz
Display dimensions: (290, 220) mm ----> 14.3 "

And Windows tells me the same thing.

I don't be able to change to 85Hz this lcd, the graphic card refused this
value directly, I must put: "NODDC" "true" in my xorg.conf and I don't
know if It is correct.

Well, someone know explain this fact and someone can give me his xorg.conf
to help me.

Thank you.

Bye Giuseppe

@techko: it does not seem to work for me :cry:

@anyone with 1511: if u have a fixed dsdt can you please send me the output of cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info ? because i suspect i have a defective bettery... the design capacity is around 4400 but the last fully charged signal is around 3700

Hey AlienPenguin,

here is my /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info

just like yours not at full charged. BUT this correct, the battery is not broken

For max life time of lithium battery it best to keep it beteween the 20 to 80% of it cappacity

This is way the battery isn't charged to its max capacity

May battery is charged up to 82,5% of it full capacity
(3629 mAh / 4400 mAh * 100 = 82,5%)

Code:

present:                 yes
design capacity:         4400 mAh
last full capacity:      3629 mAh
battery technology:      rechargeable
design voltage:          14800 mV
design capacity warning: 300 mAh
design capacity low:     132 mAh
capacity granularity 1:  32 mAh
capacity granularity 2:  32 mAh
model number:            ZP02
serial number:           0
battery type:            LION
OEM info:                SIMPLO

i have bought a prism based SMC 2835W cardbus wlancard. works perfect. i'll never by again hardware which has something from broadcom built in. even intel has released specs for there centrino wlan-modules. and the prism has much better connectionquality than the BCM with the built in antenna :)

i can't get my SMC 2835W card working. Can you post your kernel config?
even lspci does not show the card.
I have emerged hotplug && pcmcia-cs && wireless-tools

if you have wireless, prism and yenta socket support in kernel it should work.
but here my .config:

@dangertools: can you see what Cardbus controller you have.

I think mine is totally not compatible with the SMC-card. It even does not work in windows. I have had a comparable problem also with an acer laptop and with an other SMC-card and i think the same TI-cardbus controller.

First of all, sorry for my english level, but I'm from Spain.

I have an aspire 1502 Lmi on Gentoo 2004.2 compiled in 32 bits (in 64 bits wireless does not work). I
have a problem in linux with wlan (Broadcom 94306...). I install
ndiswrapper with WinXP driver, but when I make "modprobe diswrapper"
the wlan led from the laptop switch off (it was on before), and when I
write "iwlist wlan0 scan", it doesn't find my access point.
(with other windows drivers the led is always on, but the result is the same).

I think the problem is that the wireless is not enable, with acerhk the special buttons does not work neither.

I read it is posible, but it doesnot work for me. Someone has made it works?

Thanks in advance.

My aspire is a 1511, yesterday I installed ndiswrapper following the howto on gentoo-wiki. I worked fine. I saw in the folder of the windows drivers from acer two inf-files. Maybe you used the wrong one.

EDIT: it wasn't the on gentoo-wiki i followed a howto it was here on the forum: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=125627&highlight=ndiswrapper+howto

That doesn´t work for me neither :-(.

Did you have to activate the wireless in linux? (with the laptop button or something else)

Thanks in advance

Which software do you use to manage the laptop buttons?? I tried acerhk, but does not work. In the acerhk page doesn't appear the 1500 series like supported series (1400, 1600 and lot of others yes).

Thanks.

I don't use any software for the buttons yet, but here the wifi button is in hardware, so it works in windows just like in windows, without installing anything

Hi,

I've an Acer Aspire 1513lmi; this notebook is a 1511lmi + AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ and their DSDTs are identical.
I've followed the threads about the 1511lmi and I found the Christian Casteyde DSDT and his suggestions in:

http://casteyde.christian.free.fr/laptop/LinuxOnAspire1511LMi.html

and the DSDT in:

http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/tables/ACER/Aspire_1513LMi/ACER-Aspire_1513LMi-unknown_bios-custom.asl.gz

and these work fine on my system.

My system is a dual boot system Gentoo-64 + Freebsd-64 (5.3 installation) and then the DSDT problem is also
a Freebsd problem.
In Freebsd the better way to obtain the DSDT is the acpidump solution and this DSDT is just like the DSDT that
I obtained by my Linux system, except for some initial notes, for the file tail, and a error that the Freebsd iasl and
http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/tables/ACER/Aspire_1513LMi/ACER-Aspire_1513LMi-unknown_bios-custom.asl.gz signal
but the iasl in Linux doesn't signal.

The Linux DSDT tail is:

.
.
.
Name (FWSO, "FWSO")
}

The Freebsd DSDT tail is:

.
.
.
Name (FWSO, "FWSO")
Scope (\_PR.CPU0)
{
Name (_PCT, Package (0x02)
{
ResourceTemplate ()
{
Register (FFixedHW, 0x00, 0x00, 0x0000000000000000)
},

ResourceTemplate ()
{
Register (FFixedHW, 0x00, 0x00, 0x0000000000000000)
}
})
Name (_PSS, Package (0x04)
{
Package (0x06)
{
0x00000898,
0x00013E5C,
0x00000064,
0x00000009,
0xE020288E,
0x0000008E
},

Package (0x06)
{
0x000007D0,
0x0000FA00,
0x00000064,
0x00000009,
0xE020298C,
0x0000018C
},

Package (0x06)
{
0x00000708,
0x0000B798,
0x00000064,
0x00000009,
0xE0202A8A,
0x0000028A
},

Package (0x06)
{
0x00000320,
0x00004A38,
0x00000064,
0x00000009,
0xE0202C80,
0x00000480
}
})
Name (_PPC, 0x00)
}
}

I'm not a acpi-asl expert, but this excerpt, I think, defines the cpu object. There are three subobjects:

the _PCT interface, the _PSS declaration about the performance states and
the _PPC method, and they make clear the file part:

Scope (\_PR)
{
Processor (CPU0, 0x00, 0x00008010, 0x06) {}
}

The only part that, I think, is strange in this excerpt is "Name (_PPC, 0x00)", because _PPC is a method and its definition
form, in general, is:

Method (_PPC, ...)

{
.
.
}

but here, _PPC has an objectname form.

Anyway in the Freebsd DSDT, the only necessary changes are:

3975,3980d3974
<
< Return (Package (0x02) <---**Note
< {
< Zero,
< Zero
< })
5163,5164c5157,5158
< 0x00,
< 0x00,
---
> Z005,
> Z005,
5456d5449
< Return(Package(0x02){0x00, 0x00})

***Note:

These additional lines are absent in the Casteyde DSDT
and I obtain its solution by the DSDT for the 1513lmi in:

http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/tables/ACER/Aspire_1513LMi/ACER-Aspire_1513LMi-unknown_bios-custom.asl.gz

at the line 3893.
Note that the iasl decompiler, in Linux, doesn't
signals this error, but the Freebsd one signals it.
******

Note that the Freebsd DSDT is longer that the Linux DSDT because the first one has some initial notes.
The Freebsd DSDT tail can't be added to the Linux DSDT, because the Linux system doesn't boot with this.

I don't know why the Freebsd DSDT is so different, but peraphs someone can use this excerpt to improve the DSDT corrections.
I can add that these corrections work in the Freebsd system, and the error signals disappear with the corrected DSDT, but
I can't know if the acpi system work fine with Freebsd, because the Freebsd S.O. doesn't implement
the powernow-k8 functionalities.
Peraphs this Freebsd DSDT tail is only an external (this is strange because the AML decompilers don't print the externals), and in fact the powenow-k8 functionalities for the frequencies 2200000 (0x00000898), 2000000
(0x000007D0), 1800000 (0x00000708), 800000 ( 0x00000320) are correctly recognized by Linux, and then this tail isn't
necessary.

About the error that the Freebsd iasl (and the http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/tables/ACER/Aspire_1513LMi/-
ACER-Aspire_1513LMi-unknown_bios-custom.asl.gz) signals and the Linux iasl (and Casteyde for 1511lmi) doesn't signal,
I add this comment that I found in http://www.cpqlinux.com/acpi-howto.html:

.
.
.
Note: It may be possible to use iasl with the -d option to dump your table to .asl as well; however, one guy at the acpica
ML who showed me this had the following to say:

"I have not checked actually if iasl is 'good' in order to disable the AML. It is a new feature, so that it has perhaps
some bugs. I can not be sure.

Using pacpidump should be OK, but the version you point was updated, debugged, etc. under FreeBSD, and those changes are
present only under FBSD, not the one you pointed."
.
.
.

Then I think that the acpidump command and iasl command in Freebsd works
better that in Linux and that the freebsd error signals are, peraphs, more
correct.

Bye Giuseppe

Does pcmcia works for you?

I have same notebook and my pcmcia wifi cards doesn't work.
pcmcia works with an usb pcmcia card.
kernel 2.6.5-2.6.9 hangs when i launch /etc/init.d/pcmcia
kernel >2.6.10-rc1 does not hang and detects my cards but hanga later when i try to use the wlan (example dhcp).

My pcmcia controller is a Texas Instruments 4510, aka TI 4510.

I have opened a bug in sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1066787&group_id=2405&atid=102405

Any of you got the pcmcia fully working?

I got my pcmcia working with a 2.6.10-rc2 kernel. I am happy now.

It is also a nice kernel since it let me use cisco-3des-vpnclient to connect to my university.
I wil switch then from 2.6.5-r1 to 2.6.10-rc2.

Remember to add to your /etc/pcmcia/config.opts as Dave (pcmcia developer) said.

Code:

# Dave said to try this
include memory 0xd0100000-0xd04fffff
include port 0x3000-0x3fff

Hi. I've got an aspire 1513Lmi and i get the same 'screen flicker' that delvin has, however its just a screen thing for me and doesn't cause anything to crash. However it is annoying!! Does anyone else have it? The screen tears/flickers every few minutes, but only for a fraction of a seconed. I'd guess that its something to do with refresh rates and the like. My xorg.conf:
Code:
HorizSync   28-49
VertRefresh 43-72

Is this the same as other peoples? can someone without this flicker please post there refresh rates, or am i barking up the wrong tree?
Cheers

Hi, I've posted my xorg.conf to Delvin, I don't know if it's working for him.
I've not this problem on my Gentoo system, but only on my FreeBsd system
(32bit version) and I've not solved it. In this case I think that you can use

Section "Monitor"

Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Acer"
ModelName "PnP"
Option "DPMS" <------- This is important

EndSection

Thanks for the reply. I added the DPMS line to my xorg.conf, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Any ideas?

I haven't spend to many time configuring X because it actually worked the first time without any problems. This means my refresh rates might not be the best possible.

HorizSync 31.5 - 57.0
VertRefresh 50-90

I have an Acer 1511LMi

Thanks for the reply Boz. I tried your refresh rates but i still get the flicker. Is there anyone with a 1513Lmi who doesn't have the flicker under gentoo? If so, could you send me your xorg.conf and details of nvidia drivers versions and xorg versions and all sorts of stuff like that :P
Thanks
