|
|
Hi,
I have merged the bootsplash-0.3 ebuild and have patched the kernel sources. I have then followed the readme and everything should be working, but there seems to be a problem with the initrd. From dmesg:
RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0.
Freeing initrd memory: 31k freed
It did this both with the original initrd image and with the one I build after changing the symlinks to use 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024.
I am using grub to boot and have the image in /boot/initrd.
from grub.conf:
title=Gentoo Linux w/ bootsplash
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/bzImage-test root=/dev/hda3 hdc=ide-scsi video=vesa:mtrr:1024x768@70 vga=0x318
initrd=/boot/initrd
Anybody know what the problem might be? |

I've established that the "RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0." is not the problem. If you read the entire Boot Splash (background pic ala Suse) TIP of the YEAR! thread, or at least the last 2 pages, you'll see that there are people who have this error but also got bootsplash to work.
Do you get something like this in your 'dmegs': Code: | Looking for splash picture....<6>error 11 while decompressing picture. |
If you do, then I think it's just the resolution or something else with the jpeg picture. If you don't even get such and error, you are in the same boat as me - I'm not getting bootsplash to work either even though I've done exactly as the "how-to" (before it became a ebuild) and the ebuild instructions says.. Please let me know (pmsg) if you get it to work. |
