Hi,

in generall I don't like icons
But in THIS case I hardly can keep on working with my system: ALL of KDE icons are lost (kde menu, task bar, file open dialog icons, kwrite icon bar, konquere icon bar...)
That happened after an (unwise?) step: emerge --update --autoclean world. Even when I replaced the 53 config files my icons didn't come back to me...

Do you have an idea what I cound do next?
Thanks
Felix

Have you updated some drawing library or something? maybe it just can't paint the icons anymore, had this problem with gnome some time ago, needed to recompile depending packages.

Don't no, could be, cya lX

Thanks lx,

like sometimes my problem was solved without exactly knowing why... :?
Only so far: I did
Code:
emerge --update world
emerge system

but I had to do a
Code:
emerge [--pretend] kdelibs

to get back my icons. Ok, I'm happy, it works now!
The only thing I wonder is: Why didn't
Code:
emerge --update world
emerge system

tell me that I had to update my kdelibs? I guess that there is something about 'emerge' I haven't quit well understood yet!
'bye

This subject has been thoroughly discussed already. I did not find it necessary to go to the expense of re-emerging kdelibs. The problem usually stems from libpng, as KDE uses PNG image format natively for nearly all bitmaps. At the time you originally compiled kdelibs, it was linked into a specific version of libpng which may since have been updated. Usually it's just a matter of checking the appropriate symbolic links in /usr/lib, to ensure that they all point to the real libpng binary. See https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=1885
