This is a funny one that I can't find a solutoin to.
Regualrly (but not always) opening xine, crashes X and dumps me back at the login manager (gdm), killing all the apps I had open. Xine is open for an instant before this happens (ie. No time to play or find a movie clip)
I'm using fluxbox with:
Code: | USE="X gtk gnome kde qt gpm xmms cups esd -alsa mmx"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-mcpu=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
|
I have Gnome2.0.3, KDE3 and fluxbox installed (hence all the useflags).
Actually, I started off using KDE. I didn't like it much so I changed to Gnome. I had the same problem with Xine after switching to Gnome, but re-emerging it with 'gnome gtk' in the USE flags seemed to solve it. Is there a 'fluxbox' USE flag perhaps that would help? Any other suggestions?
Thank you

I used to have the same problem under Mandrake 9.0 what I found it was the drivers that Xine would try to use . In my case it would try to load the OSS drivers and it would do the exact thing you discribed but if it used the alsa drivers it worked fine ,but like you said it would do it at random and I just finely just gave up on the oss driver and used just the esd and alsa with the arts plugin .It may work in your case as well. Oh and the driver shows in the ~/.xine file so you can start by looking in there and seeing which driver its using as the control panel would not display the real driver that would load (in my case any way) . |

Thanks for ur reply.
I'm using OSS sound drivers (emu10k1 configured as module). I checked the Xine config and it seems to be set to use the OSS drivers. I had no intention of using ALSA drivers for sound - would they be any benefit to me considering my soundcard is working really well with OSS?
BTW, Xine is steady as a rock if it does open successfully. |
