I just installed gentoo: after compiling the kernel (vanilla-sources-2.4.20) and reboot I found many failures in /root/kernelboot.log! It looks like my motherboard (ASUS A7V8X) is not supported but I'm new to Gentoo 1.4 rc2 so I don't know. my /root/kernelboot.log is appended:

Everything looks ok to me except for this section, it looks a little screwy:

you may want to compile your kernel again however with your ide controller included, it is sure to add performance, not sure what type it is but it is related to this line:
Quote:
VP_IDE: detected chipset, but driver not compiled in!

Maybe someone who has this chipset can tell you what to compile into your kernel.

Everything else here appears to be normal unless I missed something.

ok, I ll try to find out! but what do you think about the agpgart section

Code:

agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 439M
agpgart: Unsupported Via chipset (device id: 3189), you might want to try agp_try_unsupported=1.
agpgart: no supported devices found.

Check the "Character Devices" section in your config, and make sure "VIA Chipset support" is compiled in.

I use this mobo as well, I also get the IRQ things in dmesg, but I haven't had any problem yet. Gentoo works fine here. Now only my Audigy...

I read agp 3.0 is not supported in 2.4.20 on kernel.org but it can be patched in. do you know how. Did you (yngwin) try to use 3d-applications - is agp supported with your kernel?
