gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.0.4.1-r1 fails compile

Hey everyone. I've been emerge-ing gdm and i've gotten to: gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.0.4.1-r1

When I get halfway done with the compile i get:

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-pc-linux-gnu/3/2/1/../../../../i586-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lbz2
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [libbzip2.la] Error 1
make[3]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....

then it goes
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

!!! ERROR: gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.0.4.1-r1 fails failed

!!! compile failure

Anyone have an idea why?
I've tried compiling with -march=i586 and -march=k6-2 but neither works... I usually use -march=k6-2 but before I had an error which was fixed with -march=i586

*shrug* anyone have an idea how to fix this?

attempting to emerge bzip2 before trying that package.. will post results (possible that the gnome-vfs package doesnt know it should grab bzip2 before trying to compile?)

seems a new package (not -r1) has been updated.. i installed bzip2 -- trying a re-emerge of gnome-vfs.
