I put premium in my car this weekend. I paid $2.17 a gallon for it. I learned that it is a good idea to run premium through a car once a month. It acts as its own fuel injection cleaner.

that's untrue, and a waste of money. most quality brands of gas have the exact same detergents in all octane levels. do a google search for the gasoline faq. basically, run the lowest octane gas with which your car doesn't ping, and you'll be fine.

unfortunately, 87 octane gas is up to about $2.19/gallon here right now. I don't even know how much 91 octane costs, probably $2.39 if I had to guess.

The U.S. Department of Energy puts out this nice weekly report on gasoline and diesel prices by region in the U.S.:

Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update

When I filled up my VW Jetta TDI (diesel) over a week ago, it cost $2.19 per US gallon. Now I see most stations charging around $2.40. Good thing I can get about 700 miles a tank (15 gallons at ~47 MPG). Diesel has gone up about 40 cents here (New England) in the past month. But I guess I can't complain; Europeans have it much worse.

Oh yeah.. my last receipt:

Code:
When: Oct 20, 2004
Place/Brand: Thornton, Wallingford, CT
Total:  $32.77
Gallons: 14.901
Price per unit:  $2.199 / gal
Fuel: Diesel
Vehicle: 2001 VW Jetta TDI 1.9L with about 16.5 gallons of fuel capacity when "venting" -- otherwise its 14.5 gallons.

car: 1997 chevy lumina (3.1)
gas: $28.00 (13.8 gal at 2.09/gallon)

i can run like 300 miles on a tank, depending on how hard i drive. gas is god damn expensive in wisconsin. 2.12 for regualr (87 octane), or 91 octane if you get the ethanol induced stuff. it fucks up fuel injectors and cabs alike, so i stray away from it.
