One of the few reasons why I still dual boot into win2k is photoshop. However, I'm trying to lessen my dependency by using and experimenting with gimp. One thing I currently find annoying is that it loads a different set of dialog boxes for each image I load. (If I load 5 images, there are 5 different sets of the brush toolbars.)

Is there a way for Gimp to only use one set of dialog boxes for multiple images?

It should not do that. Are you sure you aren't restarting multiple instances of Gimp or something? Try using the File->New/Open menu within the Gimp.

Hmmm... That definately sounds broken. If Kaali's thoughts are wrong (as in, you are opening new versions of GIMP), post back and we'll see what we can come up with.

One reason I can think of you opening new versions of GIMP accidentaly is that your browsing an image dir or something, then you click on an image then it opens a new version of the GIMP.

If that's something you need to do, Try dragging and dropping (don't ask me where! experiment!).

I've been playing around with it, and I guess I've been opening mulitple instances of gimp.

I have the habit of just double-clicking on an icon (so much easier) rather than just go to File->Open.

I assume I'll just have to modify my behavior.

Thanks anyway fellas.

keep your eye on this thread. I'm experimenting with GIMP and my filemanager as well (Gimp + konq). I assume you are using Nautilus?

Try dragging the icon for the picture you want to open onto the Toolbox.

Well, if you want to keep double clicking, what you can do is set the double click action to lauch /usr/bin/gimp-remote (it might be /usr/bin/gimp-remote-1.2) instead of /usr/bin/gimp. gimp-remote is designed to send images to an already running gimp session. I use this with rox and it works great.

Edit: That should be "gimp-remote -n", this way it will start a new gimp session if there isn't already one running.

Actually, I mainly use konq. (I'm prefer kde over gnome.)

kawada: THX, that works great.

I must say, my initial impressions of gimp were rather poor, however, the more I play with it the more I like it. It just requires a different learning curve than Photoshop.
