Hi all - I'm trying to emerge gnome in a fresh gentoo install, but I get a compilation error from openjade 1.3.1.

/usr/bin/perl -w ./../msggen.pl -l URLStorageMessages.msg
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/getopts.pl line 26.
URLStorageMessages.msg:7: invalid character after %

I'm not very proficient in perl, so I can't decipher the exact problem. It's obviously a syntax problem in URLStorageMessages.msg. Any ideas?

Thanks.

There is an open bug regarding this problem (see bug # 11986) which contains a fix to the problem.

I manually installed the openjade package with the suggested fix and it worked - this is what I did

1) ebuild openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild fetch
2) ebuild openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild unpack
3) edited /var/tmp/portage/openjade-1.3.1-r5/work/openjade-1.3.1/msggen.pl
and changed line 64 to read $argc = substr(field[0], 1, 1);
(removed the int( ))
4) ebuild openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild compile
5) ebuild openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild install
6) ebuild openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild qmerge

There may be an easier method of editing and building a source file, but I haven't discovered it yet.

Hope this helps

Relative newbie who hasn't used the ebuild command before.

gentoo root # ebuild openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild fetch
!!! doebuild: openjade-1.3.1-r5.ebuild not found.
gentoo root #

Did an emerge rsync (as always) right before this.

Any ideas?

Got it to work by using the full path to the file. Compiling now.

i went through it and when i ran emerge <openjade...> qmerge it returned:

* Now adding /etc/sgml/openjade-1.3.1.cat to /usr/share/sgml/openjade-1.3.1/catalog and /etc/sgml/catalog
* Now adding /etc/sgml/openjade-1.3.1.cat to /usr/share/sgml/openjade-1.3.1/dsssl/catalog and /etc/sgml/catalog
* /etc/sgml/openjade-1.3.1.cat doesn't appear to exist, although it ought to!
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
>>> app-text/openjade-1.3.1-r6 merged.

anyone know how to fix this?

i fixed the problem i was getting by resolving a missing dependency i was unaware of... i did this by issuing 'emerge openjade' it compiled and installed the things that was missing and then failed during the compile of openjade... i then applied the solution written above and that fixed everything.

The problem persists with openjade 1.3.1-r6 ebuild. I followed the procedure outlined for r5 and got it installed. I'm a bit surprised that both r5 and r6 have the same problem ...

The bug filed https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11986 includes the r6 ebuild. Probably got missed in the changes.
